re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Many moons ago a Landmaster met with an accident. Windshield also got knocked out, maybe because he was not wearing seatbelts? There is a sign behind the car which may just read "Worli Fire Station". Wonder if this car was repaired and still exists?

Cheers harit

PS Maybe Kasli will put up this picture showing the complete number plate

Since this is shot in Bombay I assume it is BML or BMC registered. Incidentally BML 4371 (just one number later) is a Landmaster that survives in Thane, was advertised for sale but I cannot find the post right now. Lovely picture btw!

Another Landmaster for Karl. This is parked on the wrong side of the road, seems worse for wear, but has not been burnt though the stans are similar. The Hanseat Tempo behind would excite me more.
This could be on the road leading from Babulnath to Hughes Road, one has to check those buildings.

Cheers harit

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Here are a few pictures I came across of a family with Army connections. The main person in these pictures is one Maj. Gen. Mahadeo Singh who must have been a famous personality post independence. He was placed in IMA Dehradun and most of the pictures are from there:

Here's an interesting number plate. Picture is dated 1949:

Here's a picture with Dr. Radhakrishnan in Srinagar (1952):

Somewhere in Sonamarg - Kashmir (1952):

1956 with Pt. Nehru and Indira Gandhi: (What car is that )

At IMA commissioning, Dehradun 1967:

Here's a picture from another set showing how accessible Gateway of India was. Picture is from Feb 1974

A very similar Ford truck is lying rotting in MIT Chromepet Chennai Campus in front of library. That truck has two steering wheels both left and right.

The number plate is exactly between the 4 persons, it is an army plate with the arrow.
The photo with Nehru and Indira di not upload properly, cannot say what vehicle that is.
The white sedan is a British Ford Consul, these cars were seen in India, one has just been ruined in Pune.
The picture of the Gateway is nice. In the background you can see the start of the reclamation for the Navy pond. There are 2 Beetles in the picture, a Chevy and a Dodge/DeSoto. Very nice.

Here are 2 old pictures, the first has a Bengali board in the background, cannot make out the car.
In the second picture the car appears to be a 1954 Dodge or one of its siblings, the wheel on the right in the background looks odd.

Cheers harit

Not a Consul (though there were many of those too), but this is a Corsair.

Sorry, slip of tongue. I did mean Corsair.

Did you know that vintage cars also met with accidents? This photo is not turned, there are men standing in the background. What car could this be?

Cheers harit

Could be! will check! the first building on that road next to the Bandstand "Raj mayur" belonged to my uncle's family at one time, never had a porch. the next building Seksaria house indeed has a porch, and so does the next one. Will check on the details on the weekend and will update.

Methinks 'tis a GAZ 69 Jeep.

Some years ago there was one with a second hand car dealer near the Mysore Zoo; used as a crowd puller; supposedly brought in from TN.

Here's a complete pic from the net :

Yes, indeed.

Now need to push this thread along.

Victoria Memorial, which I happened to visit last november, was built between 1906 to 1921. Here is a picture taken when the work was not quite finished, surely this is before 1920. There are interesting vehicles, unfortunately the focus was on the building and not the cars & bus.

Cheers harit

Heres an old Ambassador which my aunt and uncle used for their wedding. Any idea if the car (MRG 3324) still exists?

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

In 1960 the Government of India experienced the first Central Government Strike which was violent and deadly. One can ask googlebaba for more info. These are street scenes at Flora Fountain, in 1960 we still had the trams and the tram station. I was not aware that such a strike had ever taken place, now I know because of this strip from a contact print. Some more history of India with pictures taken in Mumbai
