I believe this is the "Forbes Building" on "Home Street" , Bombay.

Guess it is now the Charanjit Rai Marg, Mumbai.

The car on the right seems to have a 5-digit registration. More Calcutta like!

Thanks for this pic. I had the good fortune to have my office located in this building for a few years in the mid- to late-90s. Unfortunately, even by that time, the beautiful art deco facade had been spoilt by the addition of two floors at the top in addition to the original 4 floors as seen in this picture. The new floors completely subsumed the central pediment and the turrets in the structure, leaving it looking like a squat building without any prominence. And that's the way the building stands to this day.

Shapoorji's own the building. Can't really blame them for the modifications as there is a commercial opportunity that they have chosen to exploit. And they are not alone in this regard. Many lovely art deco buildings in south Mumbai (especially commercial ones) have seen new floors added where none were intended. Just wish that I (and my kids) could have lived to see some of these structures in their original glory.

P.S.: Apologies if I have made some errors in architectural terminology. It's not really my area of expertise (or even knowledge).

I empathise with you. I too admire and love old houses and buildings as much as I do old cars and motorcycles.

They all have the same charm. It pains me when I see old buildings
being mutilated by additions and modifications with hardly any thought given to the beauty of the construction and design. Many owners - who are usually 2nd or 3rd gen inheritors - don't think twice about pulling down an old house or building and raising a modern replacement.

No doubt it is lucrative to do so but it is like cutting down a big and majestic tree.

This picture postcard is supposedly from India from around 1916, as the postcard bears that date.

I happen to collect NSCI Club memorabilia as well, since I am a member there.

Sometime back there was an old short black + white clip circulating on WhatsApp showing a cricket match among our film stars. I commented to friends that the venue appears to be Vallabhbhai Patel stadium because of the sloping velodrome seen in the background. Some did not believe it possible.
This same clip came into circulation again and I tried to find it on U-tube. A friend pointed out this link to me:

In the beginning we see the cars of the stars entering the club, carrying the film stars. You will see many recognizable faces, heroines were also present.
And the venue was confirmed, the Nawab of Nhava Sheva’s house which still stands opposite NSCI can be seen in the background.
Among the cars seen are Mehmood’s MG which was dismantled in the 1990’s, wonder if it still exists. And Raj Kapoor’s 1959 Buick convertible, seen in Chembur also in the 1990's on the road side near the studio in terrible shape. All the cars in this clip were spanking new, Mercedes Ponton, Dodge, Chevy Impala are among the others seen.

The event was a charity event organized by a Film Functions Committee in aid of Cine Workers relief Fund
Among the sponsors were Pure Drinks, Metropolitan Trading Co Bombay who gave the gifts.
The match was between teams Raj Kapoor vs Dilip Kumar.

A film was made, it was called "Stars Cricket Carnival 1962"

Since it is not a movie, but coverage of an event, I am posting this in this thread.
