From Sainik Samachar of Oct 26, 1986. Appears to be a white Standard Herald from the single shade era, post the two-tone intial beginning.

What car?

Is it an Opel 4-Cylinder? of the mid-1930s?

My Grandfather owned an Opel 6-Cylinder which looked almost identical down to the shape of the front windscreen. It was with him from 1936 till his death in 1998. Got sold by the family {without consulting me, if I may add} to a collector.

I suspect the pic. dates from an earlier time (maybe 60s) and just happened to be published for the article in 1986, as the car looks relatively new for 1986!
Also unlikely that an organisation or individual related to defence would be using a 20+ year old Herald in 1986.

India lost one of its finest actors yesterday, Irrfan Khan was brilliant in all the roles he played.

Khan's career spanned over 30 years and earned him numerous accolades, including a National Film Award, an Asian Film Award, and four Filmfare Awards. In 2011, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour.

Here are couple of pictures, the first one is not old, but taking the liberty to post here as a small tribute to him.



The one below is from Irrfan's family album, shared by his wife Sutapa Sikdar a few years ago, the picture is from his home town, Jaipur and shows his mother Saeeda Begum (on the cycle) and others, a Standard Flying 8, (RJL 63XX) can be seen in the background.

Came across these old photos from our family album while cleaning them. Would appreciate any inputs regarding the make & model of the two cars and the bus.

My father says these pictures are possibly from the 1930's. Both cars were owned by my family. The bus was a random click on a flooded street (some things still haven't changed ).

Here is some nostalgia screen shots from a video shared by Shrivardhan Kanoria, from the 1968 Statesman Rally, Calcutta.

mbz180's grandfather had some great cars. The 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost 109MG was at owned by Raj. P N Tagore. Car survives in US.





Another interesting car from the P N Tagore stable was this 1930 Vauxhall Hurlingham. Very unique car, as only 52 were made and 18 as said to be surviving. This car was exported in the 1970's and survives in Canada.


Another very unique car was this Delage. Appears to the be a seven seater. Unfortunately no further details are available.






The Ex-Reva double roof Lanchester is seen


Tyres were a major issue, as seen on the Rewa Lanchester. It is said that most of the Maharaja cars were sold in the absence of availability of tyres


Interesting to see an Indian Juggaad as far back as 1968!
