Neat - obviously shot during the war given the black out lamp and white paint along the fenders. The BLA registration is pre partition Bengal.

Discovered pics of our Amby and Morris-8, from transparencies that had been stored away for over 20 years. These date from 1968.

Very nice! What a lovely period setting, all the luggage bundled up on the stylish carrier, and so much traffic Reminds my of our Mark 2, also in WB

The Amby should be an early Mark 1, maybe dating to 1957-60. Note the curved profile bumpers, and semaphore indicators. Do elders in the family recall if this car had a side valve engine or the OHV?

IIRC it was a 1962 model. Had a side valve engine and SU carb, later replaced with an OHV. It was sold c.1981, so I remember it reasonably well. The semaphore indicators were blanked out later for want of spares, and replaced with flashing lights. The bumper overriders are another feature of the Mark 1 that I loved - the subsequent rounded overriders on the Mark 2 tended to get dented more easily.

Edit: You wanted to see traffic? Here's a bus for you...

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Now I know that at least one Splitty Beetle existed in Bombay, it was even registered here.

This is the view through the rear side window, one can clearly see the split glass.

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-splitty1.jpg

This is a part of the front, the number starts with a "B". And its not BMW.

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-splitty2.jpg

Both sections are from one photo, one has to believe me. Or maybe / even not.

Soon after I received this photo I spoke with Karl. We discussed the number, it was an early one and he suggested to check if it is a splitty. Well, here it is, the first positive evidence that there was at least one Splitty in India.
Another Splitty is supposed to be in Goa, but none have seen it as yet except the buyer. Waiting for that to come out too.

Cheers harit

There was a black one at Nagpur with the registration number MHN 1890 (re-registered in early 1964), that used to be seen as a daily driver till the early 1980's.

Wasif,
Great job they (you?) did on the photo! The registration is from Denmark 1930 to 1950. C was for Holbaek.
Cheers

My dad with his Hindustan 14 sometime in the early 70s. He has always been fond of the hills and the 14 has taken him places!
