Teflon coating is not at all needed. A good quality wax should be enough.
For the underbody I would suggest to go for it. Roads inevitably get waterlogged in India and it also reduces road noise.We take so much care of the body but the underbody remains ignored. Try to negotiate and get it free if possible or else you can get it done later too.

My vote is also... Teflon, no; Underbody coating, yes.

My personal opinion is that "teflon" coating is a complete waste and does little or nothing.

Underbody coating, however, is something you'll wish you'd had done, and maintained, if and when your car starts to rust . Go for it.

If you want a paint treatment, go and see the 3M car-care people. They made my new polo look amazingly-better-shinier-than-new. Of course, you could talk to them about underbody and anti-rust treatments too.

This is my first car too; I'm really excited and nervous at the same time. I checked out the part of the underbody where they usually do the teflon coats. It was nicely rubberised. I could feel it with my nails. So, I guess I'll take your consensus on that on the Teflon coat. Whereas for underbody coat, I guess I'll research and get it done within 3 months of purchase; the dealer is quoting more than 5K. I don't know if it'll help a great deal, because of the horrible speed breakers in my locality. The other day, when I was test driving the Beat, I just dabbed a little throttle in first gear over a speed breaker. It scraped :(

My Nano Lxi came to Rs. 231k, on road Mumbai.

Dealer had quoted 247k. Less 15k discount. Less 1k saving by buying insurance myself.
