2018 BMW 8-Series Coupe spotted testing in Germany

The BMW 8-Series coupe has recently been spotted testing in Germany. Expected to be introduced in 2018, the 8-Series will become BMW's new flagship coupe. It is essentially a two-door iteration of the 7-Series sedan.

The 8-Series moniker isn't all new for the German automaker, as it was originally introduced on a Grand Tourer that was sold from 1989 to 1999.

The spotted car is heavily camouflaged and the only design elements that are visible include a longer profile, a snooping nose, a wider kidney grille, sweptback headlamps, a steeply sloping roofline, and trapezoidal exhaust tips. It is still too early to say if all these designa elements will make it to production on the final model.

The 2018 BMW 8-Series coupe is still in the initial phases of development. Hence, not much information has come to light. However, reports suggest that being an iteration of the 7-Series, it is likely to share most of the technologies that its sedan sibling is equipped with, including the semi-autonomous technology. Engine options too are likely to be shared with the 7-Series.

The BMW 8-Series Coupe is expected to compete against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Bentley Continental GT.
