2022 Auto Expo: Organizers mulling to postpone / cancel event

Uncertainty looms over the 2022 event as the country braces for the third Covid wave.

The fate of the 2022 Auto Expo hangs in the balance as the organizers, which include the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), are still uncertain about organizing the event this time.

It is said that the organizers are thinking about either postponing the event or cancelling it altogether due to Covid-19 related safety concerns. According to Mr. Rajesh Menon, DG, SIAM, they are in talks with member companies and are yet to take a final call.

The month of July is when companies book their spaces in the pavilion and decide on the products to be exhibited. This has not yet happened. Moreover, companies have also expressed budgetary constraints.

The Auto Expo is a biennial event. 2020's event was affected by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic as many major brands decided to skip the event. Uncertainty looms over the 2022 event as the country braces for the third Covid wave.
