Fisker Inc. to set up global tech centre in India

Fisker Ocean electric SUV could be launched in India in November 2022.

According to a media report, California-based EV maker Fisker Inc., in partnership with Foxconn, plans to set up a global technical centre in Hyderabad. The company will be recruiting 300 engineers mainly for software technology development.

Fisker Inc. was founded by car designer Henrik Fisker. At present, the company offers an electric SUV called the Ocean at prices starting from US$ 37,499. It will be the first model to be launched in the Indian market. It is rumoured to go on sale in November this year.

The Ocean is offered in three variants - Sport, Ultra and Extreme. The base Sport variant packs 271 BHP, while the top-spec Extreme variant comes with a 542 BHP electric motor. While the base variant comes with front-wheel drive, the Ultra and Extreme trims feature a dual-motor setup.

The Fisker Ocean is powered by a Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery offering 547 to over 563 km of range. The base Sport trim uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery that has a claimed range of over 400 km on a single charge.

The company is also working on a sub-US$ 30,000 EV called the PEAR, which stands for "Personal Electric Automotive Revolution". The report states that this EV will be manufactured in India. The new facility will initially aim to build 1 million units.
