More dope on the Mahindra Thar 5-door

The Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to be launched in 2023.

You may be aware that a more practical 5-door variant of the Mahindra Thar is in the making. We can now share some more details of this upcoming variant.

The new variant won't be just an extended version of the 3-door Thar with a redesigned top hat. Mahindra is said to be working on the suspension in order to improve the overall ride quality. The steering will also be made lighter than the 3-door version.

The Thar 5-door is expected to be launched in 2023. Mahindra expects a similar kind of market response as the Thar 3-door and XUV700.

It is also said that Mahindra is likely to push the 5-door variant more than the 3-door as it will be more profitable, while the Thar 3-door could be offered as a made-to-order special.

Under the bonnet, the Thar 5-door could use the same engines and transmissions as the 3-door variant. These include a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel with 130 BHP and 320 Nm. The engines could be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic along with a four-wheel-drive system and a manual-shift transfer case.
