Rumour: Tata & China-based Chery Automobile to form JV

According to a media report, China's state-owned Chery Automobile is in talks with Tata Motors for a potential joint venture (JV). The two carmakers are reportedly looking into technology sharing and retail sales collaboration as well. Jaguar Land Rover and Chery are already part of a joint venture since 2012 and have a manufacturing unit in Changshu.

Since the Chinese auto sector is expected to slow down in the coming years, Chinese brands have started exploring opportunities outside their borders. With the Indian market projected to grow significantly, Chinese brands have already started making their way into market. MG is set to launch its first SUV later this year, while Changan Automobile and Great Wall Motors are also exploring the Indian market. BYD has already established itself in the electric bus market in India.
