Rumour: Toyota C SUV project cancelled in India

Toyota’s C-SUV (codenamed: 340 D) was scheduled to go into production in 2026.

According to a media report, Toyota has dropped its plans to introduce a C-SUV in India. The carmaker is likely to look at an alternative to the C-SUV in the coming months.

Toyota’s C-SUV (codenamed: 340 D) was scheduled to go into production in 2026. It was likely to be based on the global Corolla platform. Reports suggest that it did not meet the technical commercial viability and hence had to be shelved.

Toyota was targeting an annual production volume of 75,000 units, with exports contributing up to 50%. Changing global demand was another factor that forced Toyota to cancel the project.

Last year, Toyota announced that it was setting up a third manufacturing facility in India. The new plant will have an annual production capacity of 1,00,000 units, increasing the brand’s overall capacity to 4,10,000 units. But with the C-SUV cancelled, the construction is likely to be pushed ahead.
