Tata & Cummins to develop hydrogen-powered engines

India will be one of the first markets to receive Cummins’ hydrogen engines.

Tata Motors and Cummins have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop low and zero-emission engines for commercial vehicles.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Motors, stated that the company is strengthening its long-standing relationship with Cummins for their next-generation hydrogen propulsion systems. With the indigenization of this technology, Tata looks to expand its product range of green commercial vehicles.

The partnership between the two brands dates back to 1993. Thanks to recent developments, India will be one of the first markets to receive Cummins’ hydrogen engines in the future.

Cummins currently offers the B6.7H hydrogen engine that develops 286 BHP and 1200 Nm. The company has also developed a 4th-generation hydrogen fuel cell engine for medium and heavy-duty trucks and buses.
