BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe launched at Rs. 1.30 crore

BMW has launched the 8 Series Gran Coupe in India. The car is available in two variants, standard and M Sport Edition priced at Rs. 1,29,90,000 and Rs. 1,55,00,000 (ex-showroom) respectively.

The 8 Series Gran Coupe is a four-door sedan based on the new 8 Series. The car features a coupe-style roofline and frameless doors. At the front, it has a twin-kidney grille flanked by slim headlights. At the rear, it has wraparound LED tail lights and a sport exhaust system.

On the inside, the 8 Series Gran Coupe comes with a driver-focused cockpit with electrically adjustable sports seats. It has 40:20:40 split seats in the rear and the car comes with ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof. The rear luggage compartment has a capacity of 440 litres.

The M Sport Edition comes equipped with BMW Lazer Lights, different exterior paint options and M Aerodynamic package, which includes extra-large air intakes, side skirts, rear apron with diffuser, 19-inch M light alloy wheels, M badges, two chrome exhaust tips among others. Inside, the car gets multi-functional seats for driver and front passenger and M leather steering wheel.

The 840i Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine that produces 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car comes with adaptive suspension and M Sport Differential.

BMW is set to launch the M8 and 8 Series Gran Coupe on May 8, 2020. The launch event is expected to take place online.

BMW M8 & 8 Series Gran Coupe to be launched online

According to a media report, BMW is likely to announce the prices for the 8 Series Gran Coupe and M8 during an online launch. The event is expected to take place before the lockdown is lifted.

The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is a 4-door version of the 8 Series. In India, BMW is likely to offer the 840i variant, which comes with a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine producing 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The M8 is the high-performance version of the regular 8 Series. The 2-door coupe is powered by a 4.4-litre, V8 engine that delivers 592 BHP and 750 Nm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

The M8 Competition features the same engine but packs 617 BHP and 750 Nm of torque. In the international market, the car is also available as a convertible.

The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and the M8 have reached a dealership in Mumbai.

The 8 Series Gran Coupe is said to be the 840i variant. It is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine producing 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In March 2020, the BMW 840i Gran Coupe was showcased at the India Art Expo held in New Delhi.

The M8 is the high-performance version of the 8 Series. It is powered by a 4.4-litre, V8 engine that delivers 592 BHP and 750 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. 0-100 km/h time is said to be 3.3 seconds. In Competition spec, the M8 has 617 BHP and 750 Nm of torque.

Earlier this month, BMW showcased the 8 Series Gran Coupe at the India Art Expo held in New Delhi. The car showcased was the 840i variant.

The 840i Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine producing 335 BHP @ 5,000-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. An all-wheel drive variant of the 840i is also available. 0-100 km/h time for the 840i Gran Coupe is said to be 5.2 seconds while that of the 840i xDrive Gran Coupe is said to be 4.9 seconds.

BMW has also listed the 8 Series Gran Coupe on the Indian website. The official launch date is not yet known.
