Maruti launches Festive Editions of Alto, Celerio & WagonR

The Festive Editions come equipped with additional accessories.

Maruti Suzuki has launched Festive Editions of the Alto, Celerio and WagonR this Diwali. The cars come equipped with accessory kits that are available at Rs. 25,490 for the Alto, Rs. 25,990 for Celerio and Rs. 29,990 for the WagonR.

The Alto Festive Edition comes with a Pioneer touchscreen audio system, 6-inch Kenwood speakers, security system, dual-tone seat covers and steering wheel cover.

The Celerio Festive Edition gets a Sony 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, seat covers, piano black body side mouldings and designer mats.

The WagonR Festive edition is equipped with front and rear bumper protectors, front upper grille chrome garnish, side skirts, seat covers and an interior styling kit.

The accessories will be fitted at the dealer end.

Next-gen Maruti Celerio could be sold in Thailand & Pakistan

Next-gen Maruti Celerio could retail in Thailand and Pakistan as well; speculated to be named CULTUS

Earlier this week, we had reported that the next-gen Maruti Celerio will be unveiled in 2021 instead of October 2020, due to a delay from the suppliers' end. Now, some more details of the car have surfaced online.

According to a media report, the life cycle of this new model would be around 7 years, with a facelift expected by 2024. While India is expected to be the main market for the Celerio, the car could also be sold in Thailand and Pakistan market. It is likely to be sold under the CULTUS brand in these two countries.

Maruti is expected to offer the new Celerio with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engine options, while transmission options might include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT.

Some spy images of the car reveal that it will be larger than the outgoing model. The test car was spotted with 16-inch alloy wheels similar to those on the Baleno.

The next-gen Celerio may not be launched this month.

According to a media report, the launch of the next generation Maruti Celerio (codenamed: YNC) has been postponed to early 2021, due to a delay from the supplier's end. The car was initially scheduled to be launched in October this year.

The next generation Celerio will reportedly be based on the Heartect platform, which also underpins the WagonR. It is expected to be larger in size compared to the outgoing model and could have a longer wheelbase as well. It could get a redesigned interior and higher variants will get the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment head-unit.

Maruti is expected to offer the new Celerio with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engine options, while transmission options might include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

Could this be the next-gen Maruti Celerio (codenamed: YNC)?

A test mule of what could be the next generation Maruti Celerio (codenamed: YNC) has been caught testing.

The heavily camouflaged test mule appears larger than the current model. The alloy wheels also appear to be larger in size and look similar to the 16-inch wheels offered on the Baleno. The position of the rear wiper pivot and boot lid handle is similar to the current Celerio.

While it is difficult to comment about the interior, in one of the images, you can see what appears to be a touchscreen infotainment head-unit, which has become quite common even in cars of this segment.

The next generation Celerio is rumoured to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This BS6-compliant motor produces 67 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm. The engine could be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

Maruti Celerio S-CNG BS6 launched at Rs. 5.61 lakh

Maruti has launched the Celerio BS6 with a factory-fitted CNG option. It is available in two variants - VXI and VXI (O) priced at Rs. 5,60,900 and Rs. 5,68,000 respectively. The car is also available in a Tour H2 CNG variant which is priced at Rs. 5,36,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Celerio S-CNG is powered by a 998cc, 3-cylinder engine that produces 58 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm. When running on CNG, the engine develops 78 Nm @ 3,500 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The VXI variant comes with features such as air-conditioning, power steering, power windows, driver airbag, speed alert system and ABS. The VXI (O) gets a passenger airbag, front seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters and security system.

Maruti developing two sub-Rs. 5 lakh cars

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is developing two sub-Rs. 5 lakh cars for the Indian market.

The report suggests that Maruti is working on an new model codenamed Y0M. It is expected to be powered by an 800cc engine and could replace the Alto. The entry-level model could be launched during the 2021 festive season.

The second car is believed to be codenamed YNC. It is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre engine. The YNC could replace the Celerio in the Indian market. It is rumoured to be launched by the end of 2020.

BS6 Maruti Suzuki Celerio costs around Rs. 15,000 more

Maruti Suzuki has introduced the BS6 compliant Celerio in the Indian market. The car is priced from Rs. 4.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Compared to the BS4 model, the updated Celerio costs approximately Rs. 15,000 more depending on the variant.

The Celerio is powered by a BS6 compliant 998cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 BHP and 90 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

The features and safety equipment offered on the Celerio BS6 remain unchanged. The car comes equipped with ABS with EBD, speed alert system and rear parking sensors as standard. No changes have been made to the exterior and interior styling.

UK: Suzuki Baleno, Celerio discontinued

Suzuki has discontinued the Baleno and the Celerio in the UK. According to a media report, only a few ex-demonstrator cars will be sold but no new unregistered cars will be sold.

The report suggests that the company will instead focus on better-selling cars like the Ignis, Swift, S-Cross, and the Vitara. The carmaker is said to be preparing its line-up for future emission regulations.

The Celerio was launched in 2015. In Europe, Suzuki sold 21,000 units in 2018. In comparison, the Ignis sold more than two times the number. The Baleno was launched in 2016 and sold 15,000 units in 2018 in Europe. In comparison, the Swift sold 55,000 units.

According to a media report, Maruti could be planning to launch the next generation Celerio (codenamed: YNC) in the next 12-18 months. 

The Maruti Celerio was launched in 2014. It received a mid-life facelift in 2017. The next generation Celerio is expected to be built to comply with the new crash safety regulations. Rumours suggest that it could be based on the Heartect platform. 

At present, Maruti offers the Celerio with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. The CNG variant of the Celerio comes with same engine but with a slightly lower output. It puts out 58 BHP and 78 Nm of torque.
