9 years & 62,000 km in a Ford Fiesta Classic 1.6

In the showroom, we just checked out the Fiesta Classic, the variants, prices and even without a second thought or a test drive, we went ahead and booked the car.

BHPian arun1100 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

2012 Ford Fiesta Classic

The Ford Fiesta was first launched in India in 2005. After a successful run in the Indian market, the new Global Fiesta was launched in 2011. Ford India then launched the previous-gen Fiesta as Fiesta Classic. The Fiesta Classic was marginally successful in the Indian car market. The production of the Fiesta Classic was stopped in September 2015.

Ford Fiesta Classic - Buying Experience!

Back in 2012, my dad and me were looking forward to buy a sedan for our family outings. We owned a Maruti Alto and a Maruti 800 at home for our daily use. Being a classic FIAT owner, the FIAT Linea was a top contender for the next car at home. Along with this, the other options considered were the Ford Fiesta Classic and Nissan Sunny. Since we were keen on purchasing a decently powerful petrol car, Linea's 1.4 seemed under powered and T-Jet was out of budget. On test driving the Nissan Sunny, the car drive quality seemed very ordinary. Since dad's official car was a Fiesta Diesel, he was keen on the Fiesta, but the petrol. The new Global Fiesta was launched by then, but again, like the T-Jet, it was out of our budget of 8 lacs. The right Ford sedan that would fit in our budget was the Ford Fiesta Classic CLXI Petrol, which is the mid variant.

My parents, nieces and me went to the dealer - Metro Ford, close to our home in Bangalore. Considering the positive reviews I had read about the Fiesta petrol in BHPian vnabhi's Fiesta ownership thread and also in the steering feel and feedback thread, I was confident that the Fiesta would be the right buy. Also, my dad's official car was the Fiesta diesel, hence we were quite familiar with the Ford Fiesta. In the showroom, we just checked out the Fiesta Classic, the variants, prices and even without a second thought or a test drive, we went ahead and booked the car.

The variant we decided upon was the mid variant CLXI. This variant is without the Airbags and ABS, although I now wish we had bought the top end SXI for safety reasons. The Ford came home a week after the booking and payment was done. Regarding the color, in 2012, there were many Fiesta Cabs on the road in white and silver color and hence we decided to go for a different lighter shade. Since I like sober colors, the shade namely - Chill metallic was finalized which is kind off like light pista green. Freebies we got were fog lamps, small hub caps which used to come on the base variant of Figo and set of mats.

The on-road price in Bangalore was 7.71 lakhs as seen in the price list below.

Some brochures we got in the showroom.

Here's a brochure of the Autocar Ford Fiesta Cross Country Drive. For viewing pleasure!

Here are the first set of pics I clicked when we got the car home.

The Fiesta joined our garage which included 1991 Premier Padmini, 1990 Premier Padmini, 2003 Maruti 800 and 2006 Maruti Alto.

Ford India recalls over 39,000 units of Figo & Fiesta Classic

Ford India has issued a recall for the previous-gen Figo and Fiesta Classic over a probable fault in the high-pressure power assisted steering (or PAS) hose. A total of 39,315 cars manufactured between 2004 and 2012 have been affected.

According to an official announcement by Ford, a potential fault in the hose can result in a power steering fluid leak, which can then cause fumes in the engine compartment. The fluid can also come in contact with the vehicle's exhaust system components, which can lead to smoke or even a vehicle fire.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by the company and dealerships directly. The faulty steering hose will be replaced on all affected cars. This inspection and replacement will be free of charge for the customers.

Ford discontinues production of Figo, Classic, Fiesta

Ford is in the process of revamping its product portfolio in India. The company is planning to introduce a number of new models and pull out some old ones. It has stopped the production of the Figo hatchback and the Classic and Fiesta sedans.

The Figo was, at one time, a strong seller for Ford. However, more modern products from rival companies have caused its sales to drop over the months. The Classic has also been selling in low numbers of late and Ford recently launched the Aspire compact sedan as a replacement. In the coming months, the company will launch the new Figo hatchback as well.

The Fiesta has been a poor seller since it was launched. Ford launched a facelifted version of the car and reduced its price as well. Even then, the car's sales didn't pick up. Of late, the sales have plummeted and Ford does not think it is advisable to persist with the product any more. The company has not disclosed any plans to introduce a replacement for it either.

Ford will also launch the all-new Endeavour SUV in the coming months.

Ford to replace current-gen Figo, Classic with new Figo twins

Ford India launched the Figo hatchback in India in 2010 as a volume seller. The car was quite successful at pulling crowds to Ford showrooms for a while, but with time and the entry of more modern competitors, demand for the car has been steadily declining. As a result Ford has decided to pull the car out of the market by the middle of 2015.

Another car that Ford is planning to discontinue is the Classic sedan. Launched in 2011 as the Fiesta Classic and rechristened in 2012 as Classic, the sedan is actually the previous-generation Fiesta which was moved a segment down after the introduction of the current-generation Fiesta. Despite being one of the best driver's cars in the market, the Classic has failed to attract buyers, partly due to its ageing design.

Ford will introduce a new hatchback and compact sedan as replacements in 2015. Based on the Ka hatchback and Ka+ sedan that were recently put on sale in Brazil, the cars will continue to use the Figo name in India. The compact sedan was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo, held earlier this year. Both the cars will have Ford's new design language that we have seen on the present-day Fiesta. Ford is likely to roll the new models out from its new plant, located at Sanand in the state of Gujarat.

Ford Classic price lowered further

Ford India has reduced the price of the Classic sedan once again. The car is now priced at Rs. 4.88 lakh - Rs. 7.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The move will enable the company to make the Classic a little more competitive against the Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire and recently launch Hyundai Xcent.

The Classic is available with two engine options - a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, Duratec petrol unit that produces 101 PS and 146 Nm of torque and a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder, Duratorq diesel motor that develops 68 PS and 160 Nm of torque. Both engines are BS IV compliant and come with a 5-speed, manual gearbox.

The Classic gets equipment like Bluetooth audio with speed-sensitive volume control, front fog lamps, rear defogger, turn indicators on ORVMs, speed-sensitive locking, ABS, EBD and dual front airbags depending upon the variant.

If you are on a budget, the Classic is one of the best driver's cars on sale today. However, it is also one of the oldest sedans out there and we suspect it will take a lot more than a price cut to prop up its sales.

It may be recalled that in January this year, Ford India had slashed the price of the Classic by amounts ranging from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 across all variants.

Ford India launches 2014 Classic at Rs. 4.99 lakh

In line with our previous report, Ford India has re-launched the Classic sedan. The car is now priced between Rs. 4.99 lakh and Rs. 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The move will enable the company to reposition the Classic to take on the Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire and Hyundai’s upcoming i10 Grand-based sedan.

The Classic is available with two engine options - a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, Duratec petrol unit that produces 101 ps and 146 Nm of torque and a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder, Duratorq diesel motor that develops 69 ps and 160 Nm of torque. Both engines come with a 5-speed, manual gearbox.

The Classic is equipped with features like Bluetooth audio with speed-sensitive volume control, front fog lamps, rear defogger, turn indicators on ORVMs, speed-sensitive locking, ABS, EBD and dual front airbags.

In the recent past, Ford has not been doing well with respect to sales. With the exception of the EcoSport, all of its models have been struggling to attract buyers. With the price cut, the company is attempting to turn things around.

Ford Classic prices slashed by up to Rs. 1 lakh

In a bid to prop up its flagging sales in India, American auto giant, Ford has cut the price of its mid-sized sedan, the Classic by amounts ranging from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 1.00,000 across all variants. The car will now cost between Rs. 4.99 lakh and Rs. 7.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The car, which was launched as the Fiesta in 2005, was renamed as the Fiesta Classic in 2011 and renamed again as the Classic in 2012. At present, it is available with a choice of two engines, a 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel.

Ford has not had a very good run in India of late. The new Fiesta never really took off with respect to sales. The Figo hatchback, which saw good response when it was launched, has been declining in popularity as well. The Classic itself has been floundering and managed with sales falling sharply. The only car from the Ford stable that is selling well is the EcoSport.

This price cut will drop the Classic straight into contention with the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and the upcoming Hyundai i10 Grand sedan.
