The updated Maruti Ignis has been spotted at a dealer yard. The spy images suggest that instead of cosmetic changes, the Ignis is likely to get roof rails and safety features such as rear parking sensors, co-driver seat belt reminder and an audible speed warning system.
Besides the silver roof rails, the car appears to be identical to the 2018 model. It has the same grille with chrome inserts and headlamps with integrated U-shaped LED daytime running lights. The front bumper is also the same and houses circular fog lamps that have chrome surrounds. At the rear, the Ignis gets the same wraparound tail lights and a dual-tone bumper as the outgoing car. Inside, the car is expected to get the touchscreen infotainment system from the new WagonR.
The car seen here is equipped with four parking sensors at the rear. This feature is likely to be standard on all variants of the Ignis. Besides this, the new car is also expected to get all safety features that are mandated by law from July 2019. These include airbags, ABS, seat belt reminder and high-speed warning system.
The new Ignis is expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm and comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT.

According to a media report, Maruti is working on a mid-cycle refresh of the Ignis hatchback. The production of the current Ignis has reportedly been stopped, but dealers haven't been instructed to halt bookings.
The updated Ignis is expected to receive minor exterior updates and interior tweaks. It could be offered with an updated SmartPlay Studio infotainment system that was introduced on the new WagonR and the Baleno facelift. The car is likely to come equipped with safety features like ABS, airbags, reverse parking sensors, seatbelt reminder for front occupants and high speed warning on all variants.
The Ignis was launched in 2017 with petrol and diesel engine options. Low demand prompted Maruti to discontinue the diesel version in June 2018. Currently, the car is available with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm. It comes with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

According to a media report, 9 out of 15 Maruti Suzuki cars currently on sale in India meet the new crash test norms that will come into effect from October 1, 2019. These include the S-Cross, Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Ignis and Celerio.
Passenger cars like the WagonR, Alto K10 and Alto 800 do not comply with the latest crash regulations. However, replacements for these models are currently under development and the new cars are expected to meet the safety regulations.
As far as cars like the Eeco and Omni are concerned, it was reported back in March 2018 that Maruti might upgrade both these models.
As per the revised regulations, cars sold in India will have to pass a new set of crash tests, which include full-frontal impact, off-set frontal impact and side impact tests. The rules will be applicable to all new cars sold in the country. Additionally, new pedestrian safety norms will also come into force from October 1, 2018 for all new cars launched in India and will extend to all new cars sold from October 1, 2020.

If these reports are true, the Ignis will only be available with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which develops 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm. It also comes fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while a 5-speed AMT is offered as an option.
