Rumour: Mahindra KUV100 NXT discontinued in India

The quirky crossover was introduced in 2017 and was available in four variants.

Mahindra has reportedly pulled the plug on the KUV100 NXT after 5 years. That being said, the car is still listed on the official website.

The quirky crossover was introduced in 2017 and was available in four variants. Unlike any other car in its segment, the KUV100 NXT offered seating for 6 persons.

The dashboard-mounted gear lever allowed Mahindra to install a third seat in the front, which could be folded to form the centre console. It also offered features such as a 7-inch infotainment system, a height-adjustable driver seat, electric ORVMs and more.

The KUV100 NXT was powered by a 1.2-litre mFalcon petrol engine that produced 82 BHP and 115 Nm. It was paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Initially, Mahindra also offered with diesel engine option, which was discontinued in 2020.

Production-spec version of Mahindra eKUV100 spotted testing

The eKUV100 was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo with a price tag of Rs. 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Earlier this year, we had reported that Mahindra is expected to launch the eKUV100 - an electric version of the KUV100, in India by 2022. Now, a test mule of the production-spec version of the vehicle has been spotted on public roads.

The eKUV100 was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo with a price tag of Rs. 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mahindra plans to make it the most affordable electric hatchback. The displayed car had a claimed range of 147 km. It had a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery and a power output of 54 BHP and 120 Nm. Its battery could be charged up to 80% using a fast charger in 55 minutes.

The test mule has some differences compared to the car shown at the Expo. The car at the Expo had a different set of alloy wheels with blue accents on the spokes, a Mahindra Electric (ME) badge on the flap of the charging socket and a triangular badge on the C-pillar. Neither of these is visible on the test mule.

Along with the eKUV100, Mahindra also plans to introduce the eXUV300 - an electric version of the XUV300 SUV.

Mahindra: No plans to discontinue Marazzo, KUV100

Mahindra has no plans to discontinue these models anytime soon.

Earlier this week, there was a report in the media claiming that Mahindra was planning to discontinue the Marazzo MPV and the KUV100 crossover. Well, now a new report claims otherwise.

The latest report states that Mahindra has no plans to discontinue these models anytime soon. Moreover, the carmaker is gearing up to introduce an AMT version of the Marazzo. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 121 BHP and 300 Nm. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

It is also said that the KUV100 will continue to be a part of the brand's product portfolio. While local sales of the model are down, export volumes have been on the rise and therefore, Mahindra does not intend to discontinue it.

Mahindra Marazzo & KUV100 to be axed

Mahindra will focus on the more popular SUV segments instead.

It seems Mahindra has finally decided to pull the plug on two slow-selling models. It has been reported that the company plans to discontinue the Marazzo MPV and KUV100 crossover and will focus on the more popular SUV segments instead.

The Marazzo was targeted at the Toyota Innova Crysta and hugely popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Compared to its rivals, the sales of the Marrazzo have been underwhelming, to say the least. Since January 2021, Toyota has sold 19,300 units of the Innova Crysta, while 37,286 units of the Ertiga have left the showroom floor. Mahindra on the other hand has sold just 711 units of the Marazzo.

With plans to axe the MPV in place, Mahindra is unlikely to introduce the long-overdue 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine on the car. Instead, this motor is expected to debut on the new XUV500 (codenamed: S301) around 2024.

The quirky styling of the KUV100 NXT has failed to strike a chord with the Indian masses. Just 21 cars have been sold since the beginning of this year, whereas its biggest rival, the Maruti Ignis, clocked sales of 16,075 units.

The report states that while the crossover will be taken off the shelves, Mahindra will introduce its electric version sometime next year. The eKUV will come with a 15.9 kWh battery offering a maximum range of 147 km on a single charge.
