Mahindra launches Furio 7 range of LCVs in India

The Furio 7 is available across three product platforms - 4-tyre Cargo, 6-tyre Cargo HD and 6-tyre Tipper.

Mahindra has launched its new Furio 7 range of light commercial vehicles (LCV) with prices starting at Rs. 14.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune).

The Furio 7 is available across three product platforms - 4-tyre Cargo, 6-tyre Cargo HD and 6-tyre Tipper. The LCVs come equipped with the Mahindra iMAXX telematics system.

The Furio 7 range is designed by Pininfarina and is manufactured at Mahindra's Chakan facility near Pune. The trucks are powered by lightweight, low friction engines with MDi and MDi Tech, along with Dual Mode FuelSmart technology.

Tata Ace Gold Petrol CX launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

The Tata Ace Gold Petrol CX has a gross vehicle weight of 1.5 tonnes.

Tata Motors has announced the launch of the Ace Gold Petrol CX small commercial vehicle (SCV). It is available in two variants - flat bed and half deck load body, priced at Rs. 3.99 lakh and Rs. 4.10 lakh respectively.

The Ace Gold Petrol CX is powered by a 694cc, 2-cylinder engine that is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.

The truck has a gross vehicle weight of 1.5 tonnes. It is suitable for market logistics, distribution of fruits, vegetables, and agri products, beverages and bottles, FMCG and FMCD goods, e-commerce, parcel and courier, furniture, packed LPG cylinders, dairy, pharma and food products, refrigerated transport as well as waste management applications.

The Ace Gold Petrol CX is offered with various vehicle care and service programs, annual maintenance packages, and resale opportunities.

Tata Motors has partnered with the State Bank of India to offer up to 90% on-road finance with an EMI of Rs. 7,500.

Mahindra Supro Profit Truck range launched

The Supro Profit Truck Mini also comes with a CNG option, which produces 27 BHP and 60 Nm.

Mahindra has launched the Supro Profit Truck Mini and Maxi priced at Rs. 5.40 lakh and Rs. 6.22 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), respectively.

Supro Profit Truck Mini

The Supro Profit Truck Mini is powered by a 909cc, 2-cylinder, direct-injection diesel engine that produces 26 BHP and 55 Nm. The engine is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. It has two driving modes - Power and Eco and claims to deliver a mileage of 23.30 km/l.

The truck also comes with a CNG option, which produces 27 BHP and 60 Nm. It claims to deliver a mileage of 23.35 km/kg. The CNG version has a payload capacity of 750 kg and comes with a 3 year / 80,000 km warranty.

Supro Profit Truck Maxi

The Supro Profit Truck Maxi has a payload capacity of 1,050 kg. It rides on 14-inch wheels and has a ground clearance of 196 mm. In comparison, the Mini rides on 13-inch wheels and has a ground clearance of 170 mm.

The Maxi is powered by a direct-injection turbo diesel engine that produces 47 BHP and 100 Nm. Mahindra claims a mileage of 21.94 km/l.

The truck comes with a day cabin and a deck body cargo option. It is equipped with air-conditioning and power steering.

Tata Motors launches Ultra T.7 truck for urban transportation

Tata Motors has introduced the Ultra T.7 Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), which has been designed for urban transportation. It is available with a modular platform with various deck lengths and 4-tyre and 6-tyre options. The company claims that it has the highest payload capacity in the 7-ton GVW category.

The Ultra T.7 features a sleeker version of the Ultra cabin, which measures 1,900 mm in width and is easier to manoeuvre through narrow streets and tight corners. The truck also gets clear-lens headlamps and LED tail lamps.

The truck can be used in applications such as transportation of e-commerce products, FMCG, industrial produce, consumer durables, electronics, essential goods and LPG cylinders. The reefer variants of T.7 are suitable for transportation of vaccine, pharmaceuticals, perishable goods, food items such as eggs and milk, along with farm produce.

The Ultra T.7 is powered by Tata's 4SPCR engine, which produces 99 BHP and 300 Nm. It has a crash-tested cabin, air-brakes, adjustable seating positions, tilt-and-telescopic power steering and a dash-mounted gear shifter. Standard equipment includes a music system and USB fast charging port. The truck also comes with Fleet Edge - Tata Motors’ connected vehicle solution that enables fleet management.

The Ultra T.7 comes with financing options, nationwide service support, a warranty of 3 years / 3 lakh km and also offers Sampoorna Seva 2.0 and Tata Samarth – the company's commercial vehicle driver welfare scheme, uptime guarantee, on-site service and customised annual maintenance and fleet management solutions.

Daimler plans to launch India's first electric truck

The light-duty Fuso eCanter is Daimler's first all-electric truck.

According to a media report, Daimler is planning to launch India's first electric truck. The details are expected to be announced at the 'Future Mobility' event which is scheduled to be held next year.

The light-duty Fuso eCanter is Daimler's first all-electric truck that is set to go into series production. It has a payload capacity of up to 3,200 kg and can travel up to 100 km on a single charge. It will be launched in the international market sometime in 2021.

Top commercial vehicle brands in India have already launched electric buses in the market. But, none have shown interest in all-electric trucks. If Daimler's plan to launch an electric truck in India succeeds, the company will get the first-mover advantage.

Ashok Leyland Bada Dost LCV launched at Rs. 7.75 lakh

Ashok Leyland has launched the Bada Dost LCV in the Indian market. It is available in two variants - i3 (2.99 tonne GVW) and i4 (3.49 tonne GVW) and comes in two trim levels - LS and LX. Prices start at Rs. 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Customers can also book the vehicle online.

The Bada Dost is based on a new platform that has been developed in-house. It is larger than the existing Dost LCV and comes with a 9.8 inch loading bay and a 50-litre fuel tank. It rides on 15-inch wheels and has a ground clearance of 206 mm. The truck comes equipped with 2-stage leaf RFS with double acting shock absorbers at the front and semi-elliptic 2-stage leaf suspension with double acting shock absorbers at the rear.

The Bada Dost comes with a 3-seat layout and has a reclining and sliding driver's seat. It is said to offer car-like features including moulded trims for roof and doors, bottle holders and ashtray, dual glove box, digital instrument cluster, provision for music system, USB mobile charger, reverse parking assist, tilt-adjustable power steering and optional air-conditioning.

The Bada Dost is powered by a BS6-compliant diesel engine that produces 70 BHP. Ashok Leyland also plans to introduce a CNG variant and an all-electric version of the LCV in the future.

The Bada Dost will also be exported to Left-Hand drive markets.

Tata Motors unveils upgraded range of Commercial Vehicles

Tata Motors has unveiled its upgraded range of commercial vehicles for transport applications from sub-1 tonne to 55 tonne.

Tata claims that the new range of CVs offer better performance, lower total cost of ownership with higher uptime and improved efficiency. The range comes with the next generation digital fleet management solution called Fleet Edge. The vehicles are also claimed to offer improved comfort and safety.

Small Commercial Vehicles and Pick-ups (SCV & PU)

The SCV and PU range consists of the Ace, Intra and Yodha models with increased payload of up to 750 kg, 1,300 kg and 1,700 kg respectively.

The Ace comes with a new digital instrument cluster, added storage space and a USB port. It is powered by a diesel engine that makes 20 BHP and 45 Nm. The petrol variant makes 30 BHP and 55 Nm, while the CNG variant develops 26 BHP and 50 Nm.

The Intra V30 gets the largest loading deck in its class. It is equipped with power steering, a gear shift indicator and has an ECO mode.

The Yodha BS6 offers better occupant safety thanks to frontal crumple zone and collapsible steering. It has flat laydown bucket seats and a high utility dashboard.

Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCV)

The new M&HCV range features three Cummins and Turbotronn engines including a 6.7-litre Cummins unit which is claimed to be the highest selling Euro 6 engine in the world. These engines are said to deliver higher power-to-weight ratio and fuel economy. The trucks come with a multi-mode fuel economy switch and a gear shift indicator.

The M&HCV range comes with Ultra, Signa and Prima cabin options. These upgraded cabins feature additional storage space, wider sleeping berths, tilt and telescopic steering, 3-way adjustable seats.

Additional safety and comfort features include engine brake, Hill Start Assist, Reverse Parking Assistance, new intelligent instrument cluster and LED tail-lights.

Passenger Commercial Vehicles

Tata Motors buses are based on a modular platform. These feature wider bodies, higher seating capacities and multiple drive modes. The buses come equipped with destination boards, surveillance cameras, automatic passenger counter and RFID-based attendance system.

The new Tata Winger is available in ambulance and passenger versions, along with multiple wheelbase and seat configurations. It is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that develops a torque of 200 Nm. It also has an ECO mode.

The Winger is based on a monocoque chassis and has McPherson strut independent suspension. It features a new design with LED daytime running lights, a new dashboard, twin AC.

Coronavirus: 10% of CV dealerships may have to close down

According to a media report, the Covid-19 lockdown is expected to result in the closure of at least 10% of commercial vehicle (CV) dealerships in the next 8-12 months.

The report states that dealerships want margins to be increased and liquidity in order to survive. At present, margins for commercial vehicles at Indian dealerships are just 1-2%. Some dealerships might even merge with larger dealers.

According to Vinkesh Gulati, Vice-President, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations of India, the cost structures and operating economics of dealerships has been adversely affected due to the lockdown. Even in Tier II and Tier III markets, the cost of operations and manpower are very high.

Piaggio launches BS6 3-wheeler range

Piaggio has launched its BS6 3-wheeler range in India. The ex-showroom price of the diesel range has gone up by Rs. 45,000, while the alternate fuel line-up is more expensive by Rs. 15,000 compared to the equivalent BS4 products.

The diesel range features a new BS6-compliant 599cc engine that produces 9 BHP and 23.5 Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox via a new aluminium clutch. The alternate fuel range is equipped with a 230cc, 3-valve engine.

The cargo range is available in deck lengths of 5, 5.5 and 6 feet and in delivery van and high body options. It also comes with a larger cabin. The passenger range is available in small body, mid-body, wide body and extra-wide body configurations.

Force Motors reveals T1N next-gen platform

Force Motors has revealed its next generation monocoque panel van platform (codenamed: T1N). The new architecture supports both electric and conventional powertrains.

According to the company, the T1N platform has been designed to comply with the latest crash safety standards including rollover safety. It has ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels and safety aids like ABS with EBD, EDTC and ESP. It also comes with independent front suspension with transverse parabolic springs.

The T1N platform is designed with a 2-box construction. It features projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights.

The T1N is powered by a BS6 compliant diesel engine that has peak torque of 350 Nm. Force will also offer a CNG and all-electric version of this vehicle.
