Range Rover Velar spotted in Goa

The new Range Rover Velar has been spotted yet again. Land Rover’s newest addition to the Range Rover lineup was recently spotted in Goa.

The spy images suggest that the Velar might be offered with a black exterior styling package comprising of a black front grille and bumper with black strakes on either side. The 5-spoke alloy wheels have also been finished in black, as is the roof. Also note that this version comes with black emblems. It seems likely that Land Rover might offer this styling package on the ‘First Edition’.

Earlier spy shots had revealed that lower-end variants of the Velar could get similar 5-spoke alloy wheels albeit in a silver finish, chrome grille and gloss black rear trim.

The Velar is likely to be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. Two variants of the 2.0-litre petrol are expected to be offered with each producing 247 BHP and 296 BHP respectively. The 2.0-litre diesel makes 177 BHP and 430 Nm of torque, while the 3.0-litre diesel produces 296 BHP and 700 Nm of peak torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is likely to be standard across the range.

Land Rover is expected to launch the new Range Rover Velar in India in the near future, although there has been no official announcement yet.

Range Rover Velar spotted in India

The Range Rover Velar has been spotted in India for the first time by a Youtuber named Premster14. According to the footage, the India-spec Velar is expected to get smaller sized (probably 18 inch), 5-spoke wheels. That said, apart from the wheels and tyres, the Velar looks identical to the model which was first showcased at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

It gets distinct Land Rover styling, featuring a sharply raked grille and an overall clean design. The electronic door handles which sit flush into the bodywork are unique to this model. The roofline gently drops as you move towards the rear and terminates into an integrated spoiler. The rear features a highly raked rear glass and slim LED tail lights that are incorporated into a glossy black rear trim.

According to Land Rover India's website, the Velar could be offered with two petrol and two diesel engine choices. The diesel range includes a 1,999cc engine good for 177 BHP and 430 Nm of torque and a 2,993cc motor which produces 296 BHP and 700 Nm of peak torque. The two petrol engines that could be offered on the Velar include a 1,998cc unit that produces 247 BHP and a torque of 365 Nm and a 1,997cc motor that pushes out 296 BHP and 400 Nm of peak torque. All engines are expected to come paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and are likely to get all-wheel drive, while the air-suspension could be offered on the higher trims.

Meanwhile, Land Rover India is yet to make a formal announcement about the Velar. The new model will slot in between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport and is expected to rival the Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace and the likes.

Range Rover Velar confirmed, to be unveiled on March 1

Land Rover has confirmed a new model in its Range Rover line-up. Called the Velar, this new mid-size luxury SUV will slot between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.

This will mark the launch of the fourth product in the Range Rover lineup. The name Velar has been derived from the Latin word velare, which means to veil or cover. This name was first used by Land Rover in the 1960s in order to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rover models.

The initial images released by the automaker ahead of the SUV's official unveiling indicate that the Range Rover Velar will be slightly bigger than the Evoque and will come with a large panoramic sunroof. The overall design language is similar to what is currently seen on other Range Rover models, though the Velar appears to get relatively smoother character lines.

Details about the powertrain, variants and features on offer with the Range Rover Velar will be revealed at its global premiere on March 1, 2017.
