3rd-gen Maruti WagonR bookings open

Maruti Suzuki is now accepting bookings for the third-generation WagonR. Customers can place their orders by paying a token amount of Rs. 11,000. E-bookings can be made on this website and the car is expected to be launched on January 23, 2019.

The new WagonR is based on the fifth generation HEARTECT platform, which is claimed to be more rigid than before and has lower NVH. The WagonR will be available in three variants - LXi, VXi and ZXi. Automated manual transmission (AMT) will be available on VXi and ZXi trims.

The third generation WagonR gets a redesigned exterior as well as a new interior. On the outside, the new model comes with a rectangular grille and large sweptback headlamps. The car retains its boxy proportions and has vertically stacked tail lamp clusters. It gets dual-tone interiors with a touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel and a single-dial instrument cluster.

According to a leaked brochure, the new WagonR will be offered with two engine options - 998cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm and a 1,197cc, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm. The 998cc engine will be available on the LXi, VXi and VXi AGS variants, while the latter will be available with the VXi, VXi AGS, ZXi and ZXi AGS trims.

Safety features like driver side airbag, ABS with EBD, front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors are standard across all variants.

Next-gen WagonR AMT variant spied

The next-gen WagonR equipped with an automated manual transmission (AMT) has been spotted at a stock yard.

According to a leaked brochure, a 5-speed AMT will be available on the VXi and ZXi trims. The car pictured here has a rectangular grille with chrome inserts, sweptback headlamps and is equipped with front fog lamps. ORVMs have integrated turn signals and it has a rear wiper as well. The interior looks identical to the manual variant except for the transmission lever, which has silver trim on the knob instead of chrome. Besides this, the car has a dual-tone dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system and a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel.

The VXi AGS variant will be offered with a choice of a 998cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine with 67 BHP and 90 Nm and a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit that makes 82 BHP and 113 Nm of torque. The top-spec ZXi AGS only comes with the larger 1.2-litre engine.

The new WagonR will be launched on January 23, 2019.

The official brochure of the next generation WagonR has leaked. It reveals variant details and specifications of the upcoming hatchback.

The new WagonR is likely to be offered in three trim levels - LXi, VXi and ZXi. Automated manual transmission (AMT) will be available on the VXi and ZXi variants.

According to the brochure, the new WagonR measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,435 mm and the car comes fitted with a 32-litre fuel tank. 

The new WagonR gets a rectangular grille with a chrome strip in the centre. It is flanked by large sweptback headlamps. It has a dual-tone bumper with 3-slat air dam with fog lamp pods on either side. The car retains its tall boy proportions and has vertically stacked tail lamp clusters at the rear. It has ORVMs with integrated turn signals and rides on 14-inch wheels. The wheels on the LXi variant are a size smaller. 

The new WagonR will be available with two engine options. The LXi variant is powered by a 998cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm, while the top-spec ZXi and ZXi AGS trims come with a 1,197cc, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm. The VXi and VXi AGS variants come with both 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre engine options.

The new WagonR will be available in 6 colour options - Superior White, Silky Silver, Magma Grey, Autumn Orange, Nutmeg Brown and Poolside Blue.

More images of the next generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR have surfaced online. This time, the car was spotted at a stock yard. The latest images reveal the car's exterior as well as interior details.

The new WagonR has a rectangular grille with a chrome strip flanked by large sweptback headlamp clusters. It has a dual-tone front bumper that houses circular fog lamps. The new model has a tallboy side profile and this particular car is equipped with electric ORVMs that have integrated turn signals. Moving to the rear, the C-pillar has L-shaped black trim and vertically-stacked tail lamp clusters. The car has two parking sensors at the rear and is riding on steel wheels that are expected to get wheel covers.

The next generation WagonR comes with dual-tone interiors with beige upholstery. The seats don't come with adjustable headrests. It has a dual-tone dashboard with silver trim and a touchscreen infotainment system in the centre. There are circular AC vents on either side of the dashboard. Furthermore, the car has a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and an instrument cluster with a large circular speedometer and a circular digital display on the right-hand side.

The new WagonR is expected to be offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, while the 1.2-litre unit pictured here is rumoured to be offered on the top ZXi variant. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

The latest spy images indicate that the new WagonR will get a new grille with chrome inserts and large wraparound headlamps. The front bumper has a trapezoidal air dam. The rear windshield is slightly raked and is flanked by wraparound tail lamp clusters, while the C-pillar is partially finished in black. The rear bumper gets integrated reflectors. The license plate holder is positioned on the tailgate, which also has a chrome garnish.

The new WagonR is expected to be offered in three variants - LXi, VXi and ZXi. Lower variants could get a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, while the ZXi variant might get a new 1.2-litre engine. A 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) is likely to be available on the ZXi AGS trim.

We have also learned that a new 1.2-litre engine could be offered in the ZXi variant, while the base LXi and VXi variants are likely get the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder unit that powers the present model. A 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT are likely to be offered in the ZXi and ZXi AGS variants respectively. 

Media reports suggest that the new WagonR will be based on the same platform as the current model. It will get a redesigned exterior featuring large wraparound headlamps, new grille and bumpers. At the rear, the car gets vertically stacked tail lamp clusters. It is also expected to come with refreshed interiors.

Next-gen Maruti WagonR spotted without camouflage

New images of the next-generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR have surfaced online. The latest undisguised images give a glimpse of the car's exterior styling.

The new WagonR for India looks different compared to the one sold in the international market. However, it retains its tallboy side profile. At the front, it has large sweptback headlamps and a redesigned bumper. It has blacked out B-pillars and the C-pillars have been partially blacked out to create an impression of a floating roof. At the rear, the new Wagon R has larger, vertically stacked tail lamp clusters. The near vertical rear end has the license plate mounted on the tail gate, while the rear bumpers have a set of integrated reflectors.

Reports suggest that the new WagonR will be based on the same platform as the outgoing model. However, it is likely to be re-engineered to meet the new crash safety regulations. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine is expected to be carried over. Transmission options could include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. A CNG version is also likely to be offered at launch.

The next-generation WagonR is rumoured to hit showrooms sometime in 2019.

E-trio Automobiles to launch retrofitted EVs in India

Telangana-based E-trio Automobiles has got ARAI approval for its retrofitted electric vehicle (EV) kits designed for the Maruti Alto and WagonR. The company is now gearing up to launch its EV kits in the Indian market.

E-trio Automobiles has developed its own controller and sources the retrofitted kits from China and South Korea. The company has been testing its cars for the past 2 years and aims to roll out at least 5,000 cars in the next year. It has a capacity to build 1,000 cars per month.

The Alto and WagonR-based EVs developed by the company do not require a conventional transmission. The cars have a claimed range of 150 km and some of their retrofitted cars have been tested at 210 km on a single charge. The battery is rated in excess of 3000 charge-discharge cycles. The Alto is claimed to have a 0-60 km/h time of 5 seconds while the recommended top speed is 80 km/h. 

E-trio Automobiles is working with technology guidance from an R&D team from San Francisco. It plans to get kit approvals for other models in India and is currently in talks with manufacturers in Japan and Thailand.
