The Maruti WagonR has scored a 2-star rating for both, adult and child occupant safety in crash tests conducted by Global NCAP.

Maruti WagonR EV spied testing

Thanks to BHPian Reinhard and FIAT3031 for sharing this information with other enthusiasts.

Earlier this week, a camouflaged test mule of the WagonR had been spotted testing. After having a closer look at the spy images, it appears that this could be an all-electric version of the car.

The test mule has a redesigned front fascia but its grille is completely covered, while the air dam inlet has been left open. It seems that the car does not have an exhaust pipe either. The shape of the tail lamp cluster is similar to that of the regular WagonR. However, it uses LEDs that require less power instead of conventional bulbs. This suggests that it might be an all-electric version of the WagonR and not just a facelift.

Maruti Suzuki plans to launch its first electric vehicle in the Indian market in 2020. Reports suggest that the carmaker's EVs could be sold through the Nexa retail channel.

Maruti WagonR with redesigned front end spied

New spy images of the reworked Maruti WagonR have surfaced online. The images suggest that the car might get a redesigned front end with a headlamp setup similar to the Hyundai Venue and a redesigned grille and bumper. The car could be named Stingray or XL5.

The test car appears to have a redesigned front fascia featuring slim turn signals right on top and headlamps placed lower down on the bumper. The car also has circular fog lamps, ORVMs with integrated turn-indicators and black alloy wheels similar to those offered on the Ignis. The car might also get revised tail lamp clusters and appears to have a higher ground clearance compared to the regular WagonR.

The car is likely to be powered by a BS-VI compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Reports suggest that this version of the WagonR is likely to be sold through Maruti's Nexa retail channel and is likely to be positioned above the regular WagonR.

All Marutis will soon be 95% recoverable & 85% recyclable

Maruti Suzuki has taken steps to control the use of Substances of Concern (SoC) in its mass production vehicles. The implementation of the International Material Data System (IMDS) will enable the company to quantify recoverable and recyclable materials in its cars. It has been used on the new WagonR and soon all Marutis will be 95% recoverable and 85% recyclable.

IMDS keeps track of the materials used in automobile manufacturing. The data is collected, maintained, analyzed and archived and facilitates meeting the End of Life Vehicles (ELV) obligations set by national and international regulations, which limit the use of lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury and cadmium, etc. and promote recycling and recovery of materials.

Maruti Suzuki is also working with its vendor partners to set up SoC management systems.
