View Forum Discussion

The XUV700 will be launched in the Indian market in Q2 FY2022.

We have seen numerous spy images of the Mahindra XUV700. We also know that the SUV will get a contemporary dashboard design with a dual-screen setup. A recent video shows both the central touchscreen and the digital instrument cluster in action.

The digital instrument cluster has a twin-dial setup with the speed readout on the left and the gear indicator on the right. Just like in a conventional cluster, the multi-information display is in the centre.

The touchscreen infotainment system appears to be based on a new software. In the video, the occupants of the car can be seen watching a movie.

The XUV700 is likely to be offered with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engines. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, while all-wheel drive will be available in select variants.

The XUV700 will be launched in the Indian market in Q2 FY2022. It will be positioned between the XUV500 and the Alturas G4 in Mahindra's line-up.

XUV900 to be Mahindra's first SUV coupe

The XUV900 is expected to be a 4-door coupe version of the XUV700.

Remember the Mahindra XUV Aero concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo? Well, a recent report suggests that Mahindra will be putting the SUV coupe into production and it is likely to be called the XUV900 (codenamed: W620).

The report states that Mahindra's top management have given the project a go ahead. The carmaker's first SUV coupe is expected to share its underpinnings with the upcoming XUV700 and it could go on sale by 2024.

The concept of an SUV coupe was first introduced by BMW with the X6. But, the sporty looks come at the cost of practicality. The XUV900 is expected to be a 4-door coupe version of the XUV700. Exterior elements like pillarless suicide doors, which were seen on the concept, are unlikely to make it to the production version.

The interior of the XUV900 could be similar to its sister car. It could also be offered with same engine and transmission options, which include a 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic.

Ford's 7-seater C-SUV unlikely to use XUV700 platform

Ford's upcoming CX757 SUV could be based on the Territory.

According to a media report, Ford's upcoming C-SUV could be based on the Territory and may not share its underpinnings with the Mahindra XUV700.

The now cancelled Ford-Mahindra joint venture was supposed to spawn a new 7-seater Ford SUV codenamed CX757. The two companies had plans to share resources to reduce development costs. However, now that both companies have formally split, Ford is said to be going ahead with the development of the new SUV, albeit based on a different platform.

The Ford Territory is sold in China and Brazil and uses a platform that is larger than the W601 architecture that underpins the XUV700. Having said that, it has a similar wheelbase.

Even though the CX757 will be using a Ford platform, the report states that it will be designed by Pininfarina, which is a Mahindra subsidiary.

Under the bonnet, it could get the 2.0-litre diesel engine that powers the Endeavour. A smaller 1.5-litre turbo-petrol could also be on offer.

Mahindra XUV700: Flush door handle design patents leak!

Mahindra claims that the flush door handles are simple in construction, easily operable and safe for the user.

We already know the upcoming Mahindra XUV700 will be dropping its Cheetah’s paw style door handles for modern flush-fitting ones. Mahindra refers to it as ‘a mechanically operated concealed door handle mechanism’. Now, leaked design patents have revealed the complicated mechanism behind it.

The Range Rover Velar has had this feature since its launch. However, while on the Velar, the complete door handles pop out, the XUV700’s door handles are hinged at the front. Only the rear section pops out which the user can grab on to.

Mahindra claims that the flush door handles are simple in construction, easily operable and safe for the user. The handle profile also features a ring, that protects the user’s fingers from getting caught between the handle lever.

Features of the flush door handles:

  • The patent drawings reveal that the door handles will have a push-to-lock and push-to-unlock mechanism.
  • Each handle will be equipped with at least one sensor.
  • The sensors will relay information about the handle’s position in the form of audio or visual notification (on ICE).
  • The handles will have a textured surface for grip.
