Re: Jimny expected in 2011

The new Jimny to slot between the current Gypsy and the Grand vitara, so that means it could be priced anywhere between 7 lakhs to 16 lakhs! Also it seems maruti has a habit of just releasing products without much notice, like the diesel Sx4 which was launched recently.

So keeping our fingers crossed and hoping to see the Jimny soon .

Re: Jimny expected in 2011

Jimny=gypsy plus diesel plus power steering plus ac plus four door plus comfort plus electronic transfer case plus creature comfort = at least ten lakh plus. No way this can be priced at seven lakhs.

Re: Jimny expected in 2011

Gypsy is very overpriced, let's not take that as the bench mark.

How about Swift DDiS + 4x4?

You mean Maruti Swift DDis in 4x4 avatar? If yes, I wonder whether it can used for off-roading. (Yeah, the blame goes to the low GC)

Please excuse me for post.

Re: Jimny expected in 2011

Seems like something concrete is getting 'cooked' on the Maruti side. Good post Parm.

The range of possible pricing is indeed vast.

That will be pretty justified. But with the kind of pricing of THAR, i doubt whether it will be launched in this price band.

Well i am sure Samurai meant that in terms of price i.e. add the price of the 4wd mechanism over and above the cost of diesel Swift!

Suzuki's E.European plant produced a few 4x4 less-than-softroaders, contract manufactured for others. So the expertise (and tooling) is there. Now what about vision/ will.

Personally would love a toughened, 4x4 diesel SX4.

When will we see VW diesels in Suzukis?

Exactly, I was only referring to pricing. The Jimny only has 4x4 in addition to the features of Swift DDiS. I guess it takes an offroader to understand another.

It is really tiny compared to Scorpio or Safari. Therefore, I don't see why it should priced anywhere closer to them.

Doesn't Jimny have a slightly more powerful engine?

Very slight. 10ps and 10Nm extra. Also note Jimny is heavier.

Re: Jimny expected in 2011

Dont go by the power figures, the difference can be easily tweaked with ECU and then the figures we know are of Euro spec, which are generally tuned higher. Biggest factor from offroad perspective is will they retain the wheelbase and 2 door configuration. If they do a dezire with jimny and make it a 4 door etc then it would be an issue. Otherwise i see my next upgrade

Re: Jimny expected in 2011

The launch of Jimny in India is still speculative. There are no concrete news on the timeline nor any spotting of test vehicles.
Mods can we close this thread till the time there is some reliable news on Jimny.

Agreed!

The cost of the Suzuki jimny while i was in australia a few years ago was A$ 20,000 for the petrol manual (3 door). so in todays exchange rate it would come to 8 lakhs straight up. And from what i know Australia only charges 10% on CBU imports. So i guess taking that into consideration, with 2 extra doors and a diesel engine, i do not see it being priced below 10 lakhs on road.

My gut feeling is IF they do launch it, they could do a marketing gimic and release it at 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom delhi) for the 5 door diesel version.

Re: Jimny expected in 2011

^^ but in AU, SX4 hatch costs more than jimny. So shouldn't jimny be priced less than SX4?

Hi there, well the sx4 that we get here is a little different to what they have in australia. few things that make the sx4 dearer in australia are as follows:

1) 2L VVTI engine
2) 6 speed CVT with paddle shifters (gearbox)
3) 4 wheel discs
4) EBD, BAS, ESP, Traction control.

All this for A$ 20,990.

Now lets say adding a bigger engine cost suzuki Rs. 20,000
and the automatic six speed will probably cost about Rs. 50,000
Discs at the rear maybeRs 8, 000
Ebd, Bas ESP traction control we shall say Rs 90,000(being very miserly here)

so the total comes to about 1.6 lakhs which would amount to a saving of about A$ 4,000 less 20,999 equals A$ 16,999 for an indian spec sx4 hatch in australia (give or take a few hundred $ for my miscalculation.

Now if we look at the jimny that u get in australia, u do not get too many luxuries, all u get for 8 lakhs (A$19,990) is a 1.32 L engine with front air bags and ABS, which would probably be what we will get in India(in the top model) if they bring it to here. Now on top of that we have to add the cost of redesigning the body to add 2 more doors at the back plus the cost of the diesel engine that they will have to source from outside (i.e fiat) and we will probably be looking at a starting price for the 5 door diesel jimny at 9.9 lakhs.

But i guess a 3 door 1.2L K series engine basic jimny could be released into the market for about 7-8 lakhs.

Re: Jimny expected in 2011

if SX4 could come out with 1.3 diesel engine, i think the Jimny could have the same transplant instead of the 1.5 diesel engine, just to keep the costs down.

could any one compare the weight to power ratio for both SX4 and Jimny!

i would prefer petrol engine 3 door version anyday over the indianised 5 door!
