Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Felt I should post my SOS query here, rather than any other place. Mods please move it as appropriate.

Here goes:

I had to swap my 70mai dashcam across cars.

These cams stick wonderfully to the windshield via an electrostatic sticker, and amazingly withstand the cooking temperature of a car parked in the hot sun.
I am told these stickers are reusable.

1. When I peeled my sticker from the older car, it has some traces of dust etc, which I need to clean up prior to sticking on the newer car and am not sure if it is going to be effective anymore. (How to clean?)
I wanted to buy a newer film, but was not able to find it on amazon or elsewhere. Can someone help? (70mai owners will identify this film)

2. My bigger worry is about the newer car, which has a UV protection film put up on the inner side of the windshield.
So, How do I stick the dashcam? Will it damage the UV protection film? Will the electrostatic film even stick reliably on the UV film (since it is not glass)?

Grateful for any guidance here.

You can buy the sticker from Nextdigitron website here

I had a similar issue with getting the electrostatic sticker to hold onto the UV protection film in my previous car and had resorted to using the mounting bracket (with its double-sided tape) without the sticker. That should do the job.

If you are concerned that about the sticker/tape failing, you could probably get away with a suction mount (available on the same site). Since the dashcam will be out of line of sight, I believe it won't be an issue even if the mount/tape slightly damages the UV film.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi all,

I just installed a 70mai A 500 Pro Plus Dual Dash Cam . I have a couple of questions

1. Does it record both the front and rear dash cam simultaneously? When i click the button that swaps the front and rear dash cam, there is a voice prompt that says - switch to rear facing recording or switch to front facing recording. Does it mean that the rear starts recording only when I swap to the rear camera? I am guessing not as it defeats the whole purpose of the dash cam but I thought will check here

2. I use the app on my I phone. When i connect it to the cam via Wifi, it only shows the live data from the front cam. There is an option to capture an image but nothing more when it comes to functionality. How do I download recordings? How do I access the live footage of the rear camera? I am bit puzzled

Any help will be appreciated!

I have the 70mai A510 but I will take a stab at answering these questions.

For the first question, I have a question. Are you talking about switching to front or rear dashcam using a button on the front unit itself or is it on the app? Either way, you are right, both the front and rear unit are recording.

For the second question, I guess regardless of the model of the dashcam the app is the same. Once you connect to the dashcam unit, you would see the option to go to Album. Once inside the Album menu you can see videos categorized into folders (Emergency recording, parking monitoring etc.) or you can switch to a Timeline view.

is a link to an explainer video on the 70mai YouTube channel for the A510 that you can use as a reference. You will find more such videos since the unit is popular from folks explaining how to use the app.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

RedTiger launches F77, world's first dual Starvis 2 sensor equipped dashcam capable of recording 4k front + 4k rear.

But its yet to be seen how is the real world usage quality compared to the likes of Viofo and Vantrue.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Got the Qubo 3k front+rear dashcam but there is only one electrostatic sticker provided in the box. The sticker has 2 marked square sections one mentioning 'cabin camera position' and the other square having 'rear camera position' written in it. How to use single sticker for both the cameras? Is the sticker supposed to be cut into 2 pieces and use a piece each for both the cameras? If not then how is the rear camera supposed to be stuck? Does the rear camera not need a electrostatic sticker and supposed to be pasted directly on the rear glass in between the lines of defogger or how, I am confused. I request dear people to please guide me how to do this. Regards.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Anyone installed the V88R Full HD Mirror Dash Camera, with 10" Touch Screen, Night Vision, Rear-View Camera, G-Sensor, Parking Assist.

Its selling on Amazon for 6,500/-; Where can i get it installed in Bangalore? Need a reliable technician to fix it in / around Kamannahalli... Want to avoid the long commute to JC - Road and haggle with the peddlers there....

Here is the link to the product...
https://www.amazon.in/CAMFIRE-Revers...1081278&sr=8-8

Any issues with the Strap-on Screen on top of the Rear-View Mirror? Any better alternatives to the above Model Please Share...

Cheers,

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi folks,

Can anyone tell me a triple-channel dashcam model from any brand which can record decent 4K videos in the front camera while all 3 cameras are on? A few, I know as of now, can record 4K with two active cameras (front & rear only). Once the optional in-cabin view camera is switched on the video quality of the front camera drops to 2.5K. I understand there are limitations of a single memory card writing speed as cited by the brands, but I believe that can be overcome given the ever-increasing writing speed and memory capacity of SD cards.

P.S. The requirement of triple channel struck my mind of late after watching a video where an unscrupulous cop stops a driver and blatantly claims the driver will be issued a challan for not wearing seatbelts a while ago. Fortunately, the driver had an in-cabin camera and the footage ready on his wi-fi connected mobile. The cop had to retract his false claim and let him go without any fine!

And the reason and benefit of the rear camera have already been on the platter for me a few days back. The proof is in this (Your near-miss experiences on the road)link. I could never prove the driver took a U-turn on the middle of the expressway after brake-checking me once he realized he missed the exit! Thanks to the rear cam, albeit a bit tilted upward after being hit by baggage on the parcel tray.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Just to clarify, I drive a 2017 Renault Captur DLE Model; The Wind-Shield is at a huge incline compared to Duster and I'm a little concerned that the Fast-Tag sticker might obstruct the DashCam View... Any suggestions from others as to how such problems can be avoided...

The link shared shows only H.264 codec. No H.265 or HEVC. Even a 512GB SD card can't contain 8 hrs of clips it seems! Great drawback at this price!

Wait for couple of months, more and more dashcam manufactures are coming up with Starvis 2 sensor based dual and triple channel cameras. RedTiger has launched F77 which is a 2 channel dual Starvis 2 camera with 4K resolution.

Now Wolfbox has come with X5, a triple channel Starvis 2 based camera at competitive price supporting SSD which is cheaper storage compared to high speed high capacity SD cards.

Price of these cameras is much cheaper than the likes of Viofo and Vantrue which were the only two players selling Starvis 2 based cameras so far in India at exorbitant price. But now the competition is rising which will lead into more options available at competitive price.

Good suggestion when there is a dire scarcity of VFM options. Currently, I am using a dual channel setup, and for the in-cabin, I am using an old working dashcam. But it has an issue. This setup works well in daylight, but the absence of IR LEDs renders it invalid during night. There are a few cheap, wide-angle IP/Wi-Fi cameras for different purposes. Some of those use direct AP mode to work without the internet and with loop and continuous recording, similar to any dashcam. I am thinking of using this low-cost solution as most of them support night vision with infrared LEDs.

But the basic problem is overall ergonomics. It's difficult to connect with multiple SSIDs as per requirement. Also, older cameras have only 2.4 GHz slow Wi-Fi. With the increasing resolution and file size, Wi-Fi 6 is expected for those upcoming models.

Where can i get this one in Bangalore and who can reliably install it for me here in Bangalore? Also the cost on Amazon says USD $169. Which translates to less than INR 15000/-; which is within my budget...

Just want to ensure that it doesn't mess up with my car Electricals... Because I just spent a bomb replacing my fuel injectors...
