Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi All,

My Qubo dashcam pro stopped working in just 1.5 years. I've tried all kinds of reset to no avail. The wifi doesn't show up. This being the 3rd failed Qubo product, I'm planning to get something different. I plan to install only a front cam at the moment but am open to getting one for the rear as well. Here are my current options:

1. 70mai A500/ A510
2. Red Tiger F7NT, F7NT or F4 (these are all front and back though)

Any recommendations? Considering an upcoming trip, would love one that I can get delivered tomorrow and install DIY (can take care of the wiring on next service centre visit). I also see these things have become expensive. Hence, my budget: max 15k for front and rear, but the product should either be durable or have 2 year warranty.

TIA

I am using 70mai A500S for last three years and quite happy with it. First I had only front cam for couple of years and last year I added the rear cam.

I think A510 is newer version so you check it out.

Hi, How is the performance of this Woodman dashcam? i see a lot of ads for the same. Am also in the race for installing a dashcam, hence the query. I am also in BSK/ JNR area, where did you get the installation done?

Please refer to my posts about Woodman. Although I have only used their Android HU, they are not honest with their aftersales service commitment. In my case, whenever I raised an issue with their player, they would promptly come over a Whatsapp video call, and "fix" the issue with a reset, only for the issue to come back later. They did this until I was out of warranty coverage, and then they said even the Whatsapp call was a paid service.

You can also do a Google search about their using of fake specs in their android players. A company that is proven to be dishonest with one product, is definitely going to be dishonest with everything else.

Cheating becomes a habit!

Not sure if a rear CPL filter is required as there's hardly any reflection on that angle. But yes, no harm done in having one. You can refer my earlier comment here (The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread) on how to ensure the filter is correctly placed for the front cam. Would suggest placing the filter and checking out the video before fitting the device on the windshield.

Thank you all for suggestions and advice. Based on your feedback, I decided to look for Capacitor based models only, as Super Capacitor based models are certified upto 70C temp. Some models in my list to explore:
  • Viofi A229 plus: 25k (out of budget) + 2k for sd card
  • Botslab G980H: 13k (64gb card free)
  • Redtiger F7NT: 15k (64gb card & hardwire kit free)
  • 70mai S500 mirrer: 17k + 2k for card (but rear cam to fix outside car, so rejecting)
It you have any more Super Capacitor model in 15k range, pls suggest. Thanks again.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Viofo A229 plus (dual channel) is sold in US market for just 17.5k. Why its 25k in India...35% more expensive

Dashcam is good though its not as good as they claim it to be. Also have seen them get restarted automatically few times. I have been able to login to the app and view the saved videos as well and it has good clarity. I had installed at Car decor, Jayanagar.

Customs Duty, BIS registration requirement ( if any), EPR registrations, Legal Metrology requirements, Low volumes due to low demand therefore higher logistics cost along with higher transaction costs involved in customs clearance are some of the probable causes for higher selling price.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Yes but most dashcam companies are importing from outside, and difference is their prices is not so huge. May be viofo premium brand so charging more in India :-)

Thanks. I decided to go with the Red tiger F7N touch which I was getting in 2 days via Amazon. It cost me 14.2K for front and rear. One of the reasons was the longer warranty offered.

I might look into 70mai for my second vehicle once I take delivery. On a side note, I really loved the Red Tiger F4 and the Viofo models. Will try to get the Viofo from the US sometime in future should the timelines click.

Got the dashcam and it works wonderfully. I just have one problem. the dashcam came with a cigarette lighter socket and my Kushaq has an issue - the socket remains powered even when the car is off which can cause battery drain. I couldn't find good adapters on Amazon for the cigarette port to type c. Any help?

PS: plugging it out every time fouls with the always connected type c wire and might as well ruin the wire in due course.

As per this video, Viofo is now offering its products at a better price (Republic Day sale) and after sales /warranty support.

Do share your feedback. How are videos without CPL filter?

Your Kushaq has a USB-C port in front? One of my friends got a USB --> USB-C adaptor for his Dashcam installed in Kushaq and it works fine from USB-C port.
