Or is it just marketing hype about super capacitors.
Folks who have used lithium based dashcams any feedback on hot+humid climate (for eg:kerala). (Which one you have installed will be helpful)

And if you have personally purchased supercapacitor one which one.

I'm using 70mai a500+ the dual one. I travel between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It's been over a year now. It's holding up well. I too did a lot of digging since it was Li ion based. But at the price point it seems to be the better choice.

If you are to park your car under the sun for extended period of time(may be without a garage) then may be it would be a better option to go with a capacitor based one. If not regular driving in the sun has yet to cause any issues for me. Hope it helps.

I am using a 70mai A500S pro plus+ for around 2 years now. For around 8-9 months, I used to park my car in the open under scorching sun( I really felt sorry for the car ) here in Cochin. I never felt any issue with the dash cam.

My A500S keeps switching off randomly in between while driving. The latest update is supposed to fix the switching off of the dashcam due to overheating but it still does. One of my friend who is using the same cam in same city doesnt have this issue. Will formatting the SD Card fix the issue ?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

You should ideally be formatting the card every couple of weeks, else it could slow down and that could be a possible reason for overheating as it might end up using more processing power to write on to the memory card. Even otherwise memory card could loose speed over time due to repeated writing and rewriting. It could also be due to, well, overheating itself as the operating temperature is in the -10 to 60 Degree Celsius range.

You can check the following and see if it helps.
- Memeroy card issue - re-format or try another one
- Bad battery - check battery health, specially if it has become old.
- Lose connection - check for any lose connection which might be causing power on/off while driving.

Also check the power supply unit or the 12V to 5V unit plugged in your car's 12V socket. Try swapping the 'charger' with another known good one and see. Sometimes if the charger goes weak, the dashcam may not get sufficient power and will keep rebooting.

I am using the USBC Port and the connections are well connected. I have formatted the memory card and updated the firmware to the latest one which avoid frequent power cuts due to overheating. I will observe and report back here. Thanks for your inputs.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi everyone - any tips on how to install this rear dash cam? It’s a DDPAI Mola E3 so the rear camera is shaped like this.

Don’t want to install it outside for obvious reasons (breakage, theft, general vandalism) and it’s not shaped/built for interior placement in a Jimny with this type of a door style.

I think there is a reverse/flip option in the rear camera setup maybe I can install it upside down?
Anyone who has successfully installed a similar looking one do share your knowledge.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have a Hector Plus 2023 model and am in the market for a value-for-money STARVIS 2 dashcam(preferably dual channel).
Any suggestions? My car is parked in the open.

The 70mai a510 is highly regarded as the most VFM with a Starvis 2 sensor. If you want just the front dash cam it’s cheaper but around 13.5K seems quite ok for a dual model

I haven't installed a dashcam like this and don't have a SUV like Jimny either, but would it be possible to install it on the headliner that the door makes contact with. I have seen folks on YouTube who have screwed the dashcam into the headliner (perhaps it could be attached with some good quality 3M? double sided tape too).

Crude MS PaintJob to put my question across attached.

NOTE: Pic taken from 91wheels for reference. All Team BHP review pics of the boot didn't show the headliner.

I used this mounting accessory to fit the rea cam in my Jimny. Came out perfectly.

I'll send a pic of it once I go to basement.

Thanks so much, even I was seeing this on Amazon. Sadly it only delivers 1 month from now! Guess I’ll have to wait till then. But please do share pics when you can.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi All

I have a query for folks who use 70mai camera. My previous car had a DDPAI Z40 that I installed and hardwired myself.

The voltage cutoff on that setup worked flawlessly. Infact I have heard the camera switch off multiple times when sitting in the car just before starting it up. Not to mention that having a configurable voltage cutoff like 12.4V, 12V and 11.xV in the camera settings made it easy to change the cut off voltage based on where I was parking the car.

This time around got the 70mai a510 for the Starvis sensor and made the mistake of not checking the hardwire kit reviews.

I see a few reviews on Amazon that mention the voltage cutoff didn't really work. I reached out to Nextdigitron guys and they confirmed that it would work (not sure if I should trust their word) but that the cutoff is not configurable and set to a fixed 11.8V

Just wanted to check with folks here on how they hardwire their 70mai camera. Isn't 11.8V really low for today's highly sensitive sensor packed cars?
