Hi,
I have a DDPAI Mola E3 installed so you can check that model out too. For approx 4 thousand more, you probably get a slightly more well known company and the camera in itself is great. No complaints so far. The app is pretty bad tbh, connects seamlessly very rarely, but then that is also an issue with my phone being connected to the Apple carplay wifi of the car so it has to disconnect from that and connect to the dashcam's wifi.
I just take out the microSD card and use an OTG card reader to copy it onto my phone/HD and put it back - it's not a deal breaker for me but could be for others. This is the link for the particular model:
https://www.amazon.in/Mola-E3-Rearvi...s%2C181&sr=1-4
I had also seen the 70mai mirror dasham but it seems to have disappeared from the Amazon store! There is also Wolfbox but both these were way out of my budget and in the 20K plus zone.
FYI, this guy does only dasham reviews and he is really good and the videos are very informative.
About the strap-on mirror, the only issue is there will be a small difference in your angle of view. As per my understanding the mirror dasham has a slight magnifying effect so your rear view angle might get compromised a little, but it's mainly the edges, the bits inside the car. The rear windscreen is actually a bit closer/magnified in it so objects appear clearer.
This is what the mirror on the dasham looks like in day to day life.
Second issue is that the dasham mirror face has an anti-reflective coating so things might appear a little darker than in the normal OEM rear view mirror during the day. On the plus side, it works like a built in auto-dimming rearview mirror at night and no harsh glares from vehicles behind you bother you!
Third, the slight judder/shake of the clip on dash cam mirror unit, if the car engine vibrations are high. Hasn't affected the recorded footage at all though for some reason - it's videos are as steady as a steadycam!
Fourth, if you want to check the recording status and you tap on the mirror screen, it stays on for 5-10 seconds(you can adjust the time in the settings) but for that time, it's not going to show you anything as a rear view mirror so you have to wait for it to shut down and revert to the mirror screen.
Fifth - this is a dasham that will be INSIDE the windscreen so it will not be as clear and cinematic as the ones that stick onto the windscreen itself. Just sharing a few screen grabs of what the footage will be like. Apologies for the hanging wire - took me a few tries to get it into the roof liner properly!
If you leave it in an open parking dust, grime and the occasional bird poop will adhere to your windscreen and that will be visible in the footage.
Plus there will be the issue of reflections since I haven't been able to find a specific CPL filter for this particular model. Might try one in a while.
The night footage as you can see if pretty good with number plate visibility too.
Sixth - it doesn't have the Jarvis sensor so though I've not had to figure out a low light number plate reading scenario, if that is important for you, you'll have to go for a 70mai 510 or thereabouts, but it won't have a mirror option.
Lastly, my only major issue with it is a personal one - I have a Jimny, so my rear door hinges and opens outwards and not upwards like in other cars. Which means for me the rear camera is impossible to mount unless I put it outside, and even then I'll have to drill and/or put it at a lower place than I want it and attach it around the number plate, near the reverse camera.
I had to go in for an accessory which helps me install it inside the car (to prevent theft and breakage) which is an additional 900/- But do keep this shape in mind for the DDPai E3. Check the shape of your model too - of the rear camera attachment setup.
But all in all, in my case none of these things are deal breakers for me and I got used to them in a day or so. And I'm actually quite happy with it since it's the first time I've had a dasham in my car and I did the concealed (to my eyes at least!) wiring myself. Still haven't installed the rear cam since I got the accessory yesterday but the front camera has been quite good for me.
I had some Amazon points so pretty much got it for free and I wanted a mirror dash cam with the rear cam option - seemed pretty futuristic to me and my wife so it's a fun buy for us, and a good backup in case something untoward happens.
If you're looking a dashcam that also doubles as a vlog aid, or to record all your travels with clarity then this is not the one you should go for. Try for something that attaches to the windscreen itself (70mai 510) or something as cool as the 70mai Omni which can do 360 degree turn and can record inside the cabins as well as turn to the side windows if you want to show some incredible views, and has awesome footage/resolution.
Hope this helps!
