Hi,
I have a DDPAI Mola E3 installed so you can check that model out too. For approx 4 thousand more, you probably get a slightly more well known company and the camera in itself is great. No complaints so far. The app is pretty bad tbh, connects seamlessly very rarely, but then that is also an issue with my phone being connected to the Apple carplay wifi of the car so it has to disconnect from that and connect to the dashcam's wifi.

I just take out the microSD card and use an OTG card reader to copy it onto my phone/HD and put it back - it's not a deal breaker for me but could be for others. This is the link for the particular model:

https://www.amazon.in/Mola-E3-Rearvi...s%2C181&sr=1-4

I had also seen the 70mai mirror dasham but it seems to have disappeared from the Amazon store! There is also Wolfbox but both these were way out of my budget and in the 20K plus zone.

FYI, this guy does only dasham reviews and he is really good and the videos are very informative.

About the strap-on mirror, the only issue is there will be a small difference in your angle of view. As per my understanding the mirror dasham has a slight magnifying effect so your rear view angle might get compromised a little, but it's mainly the edges, the bits inside the car. The rear windscreen is actually a bit closer/magnified in it so objects appear clearer.

This is what the mirror on the dasham looks like in day to day life.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-img_2886.jpeg

Second issue is that the dasham mirror face has an anti-reflective coating so things might appear a little darker than in the normal OEM rear view mirror during the day. On the plus side, it works like a built in auto-dimming rearview mirror at night and no harsh glares from vehicles behind you bother you!

Third, the slight judder/shake of the clip on dash cam mirror unit, if the car engine vibrations are high. Hasn't affected the recorded footage at all though for some reason - it's videos are as steady as a steadycam!

Fourth, if you want to check the recording status and you tap on the mirror screen, it stays on for 5-10 seconds(you can adjust the time in the settings) but for that time, it's not going to show you anything as a rear view mirror so you have to wait for it to shut down and revert to the mirror screen.

Fifth - this is a dasham that will be INSIDE the windscreen so it will not be as clear and cinematic as the ones that stick onto the windscreen itself. Just sharing a few screen grabs of what the footage will be like. Apologies for the hanging wire - took me a few tries to get it into the roof liner properly!

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-screenshot-20241111-9.58.098239pm.jpg

If you leave it in an open parking dust, grime and the occasional bird poop will adhere to your windscreen and that will be visible in the footage.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-screenshot-20241111-9.57.558239pm.jpg

Plus there will be the issue of reflections since I haven't been able to find a specific CPL filter for this particular model. Might try one in a while.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-screenshot-20241111-9.58.518239pm.jpg

The night footage as you can see if pretty good with number plate visibility too.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-screenshot-20241111-9.58.378239pm.jpg

Sixth - it doesn't have the Jarvis sensor so though I've not had to figure out a low light number plate reading scenario, if that is important for you, you'll have to go for a 70mai 510 or thereabouts, but it won't have a mirror option.

Lastly, my only major issue with it is a personal one - I have a Jimny, so my rear door hinges and opens outwards and not upwards like in other cars. Which means for me the rear camera is impossible to mount unless I put it outside, and even then I'll have to drill and/or put it at a lower place than I want it and attach it around the number plate, near the reverse camera.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-img_2891.jpeg

I had to go in for an accessory which helps me install it inside the car (to prevent theft and breakage) which is an additional 900/- But do keep this shape in mind for the DDPai E3. Check the shape of your model too - of the rear camera attachment setup.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-img_2890.jpeg

But all in all, in my case none of these things are deal breakers for me and I got used to them in a day or so. And I'm actually quite happy with it since it's the first time I've had a dasham in my car and I did the concealed (to my eyes at least!) wiring myself. Still haven't installed the rear cam since I got the accessory yesterday but the front camera has been quite good for me.

I had some Amazon points so pretty much got it for free and I wanted a mirror dash cam with the rear cam option - seemed pretty futuristic to me and my wife so it's a fun buy for us, and a good backup in case something untoward happens.

If you're looking a dashcam that also doubles as a vlog aid, or to record all your travels with clarity then this is not the one you should go for. Try for something that attaches to the windscreen itself (70mai 510) or something as cool as the 70mai Omni which can do 360 degree turn and can record inside the cabins as well as turn to the side windows if you want to show some incredible views, and has awesome footage/resolution.

Hope this helps!

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

From everything I have read, it seems that VIOFO 229 pro 3 channel is the best money can buy with max coverage in and around the car.

Just one question - does it support live feed? I want to be able to view live feed on my mobile wherever I am in the world. Whether the car is parked or moving, I need the option to be able to view from any of the cameras from remote location.

Is that possible? Or any dashcam which supports this feature? I do not care much for ADAS features.

Does the front and rear dashcams work off just one SD card? I am referring to the Qubo dual 4k dashcam. I was looking for a slot on the rear dashcam and couldn't find one. Couldn't find anything on Google either probably because there is no slot in the first place.

Not sure of the Qubo one but both ddpai and 70mai ones that I have owned have only one memory card for both the front and rear units. Doesn't your unit rear camera have a connection to the front one?

Yes it does.

I think it has only one Sd card.
As per specifications it mentions 'Dual recording Front 4k+ Rear 1k'.

In that case, yes. It should be only one sd card. Besides, can't you just test it by having the unit record and then checking whether rear camera recordings are visible in the app?

I'll need to check that. It was on a friends car and I was helping him set it up.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi everyone, i am planning to install dash cam to my hexa. Came across some very negative road experiences recently and i feel its high time that i install one for my safety in case of some negative incidents. I have set a maximum budget of 15k. After going through some online reviews etc i have shortlisted the below models. Can someone help me choose the best among these ones? Any other suggestions? I am from Trivandrum, Kerala. I have visited some accessory shops around, but most of these shops have some unknown branded items and without any reviews or feedbacks about them I didn't want to take risk by choosing them.

I have 70mai Pro Plus A500S (front and rear cams) for my Creta and it is working well. A510 is newer model and I'd suggest that you can take a look. No need to buy some random brand cams from accessories shop.

If you are not comfortable in DIY installation then you can buy it online and get it installed with the help of nearby accessories shop.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello,

Excited to get my Toyota Hyryder V delivered today (hopefully).

I am searching for a dash cam - 3 channels for front, rear and importantly in cabin view for my kids. I will definitely want a dash cam with a live streaming option. I searched enough and I can hardly see any options for dashcams with live streaming option in India. A good accessories store in Delhi informed me that Kent had live streaming cameras in the past but the company shut operations in India. He told me about 'Feetex' dashcam with live streaming at a cost of 28k for the device + year 2 onwards subscription for 11k & taxes. I think this is too expensive specially the subscrition bit. Also I am not aware of this Feetex brand and therefore fear after sales and quality of the live stream.

Another popular accessories store (in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi) recommends 'Mosfest' dashcam that offers live streaming. This will cost me 22k for the camera +6k year 2 onwards subscription. Here too I have never heard of this brand and the after sales can be a hit or miss.

More importantly if I will spend above 20k on a dash came then I would like to have very good quality of live streaming.

Has anyone expereinced Feetex or Mosfest dashcam and speicially the live streaming performance. Or is there any other brand that you can recommend please ? Live streaming is a must for me unless it does not work well in any camera.

I am willing to spend around the 20k with 5k-6k subscription fee year - 2 onwards.

Any and all advise will be much appreciated. Thank you

Are you aware of the quality of Wolfbox? The overall X5 deal seems better than Viofo A229 Plus which is costing me around 30k for dashcam+hardwire kit+CPL lens. However, Viofo seems to have better support as I couldn't even find the hardwiring kit and filter for wolfbox.

No experience with Wolfbox, neither with Viofo or any other so far. Even I have been evaluating daschcams since long time.

When comparing Wolfbox X5 with Viofo A229 Plus, later scores better despite having only 2K resolution due to dual Starvis-2 sensors on both front and rear cameras compared to X5 which has Starvis-2 sensor only on front and ordinary FHD camera at rear.

I noticed that rear dash cam quality is overlooked by many but that is also equally important IMO. Recently a bus with blinding headlights hit at rear of my car during night drive on a highway where traffic got pilled up.

These days many people have white flood lights installed on their vehicles which blind our eyes, even when they are driving behind us, so having both the exterior dashcams with better sensors is ideal choice.

I've been using Wolfbox i07, a 3 channel model. I hear that they have stravis 2 in the recent i08 model. You can get the wiring kit from the vendor. Filter was not available for my model, but I've not found it necessary.

I am looking for the exact same feature - live streaming. My brother in law uses the Kent CamEye2 and I saw the live streaming function on his phone. I could see the location and live streaming on the app. The GPS was accurate and the live streaming worked well. But the image quality was bad. There was a reddish tinge and I could not make out the number plates of cars. But the live streaming function was very much there.

I would not buy Kent because of the image quality problems. I think you can go to their site and try to source it or ask them for a demo. I don't think they have shut shop.

I have not even heard of the other brands you have mentioned. I will do my research on them now.

From other countries, the dashcam I found is called the Blackvue DR 970X-2CH LTE Plus. The youtube reviews compared many live streaming dashcams and this one seems to be the best. USD 450 upfront cost with 128GB memory card and USD 8 per month for the cloud services. I have asked someone in the US to call their customer care and ask if the LTE sim slot will allow Indian SIMs and if I can use the cloud services in India. If they say that it will work in India, I will update this thread so that someone coming from USA can bring it and you can use it in India. I will do the same. But, it does not have internal view. Its got front and rear. Maybe you can install the rear camera on the front windshield to show the inside of the car.

Nextbase IQ is another brand in USA that has live streaming services. I emailed them and they clearly said no to their dashcam cloud services working in India.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

ChrisFix has uploaded one video with regards to how to properly install a dashcam. Shows the best way to install it for vehicles with 2 or 6 airbags & also covers hardwire kit.

Though it's not an issue with sub 4m cars, Viofo.in doesn't have longer wires anymore while the international website has upto 10m long wires for A229 plus variant

To give you some idea, S Cross is 4.3m long and the default 6m cable marginally falls short if you run it along the floor. This is also the ideal way to install dashcam in cars equipped with 6 airbags as it doesn't interfere with curtain airbags at all.

Just a rough estimate but something that might come in handy for cars with 6 airbags:
  • Sub 4m car: Default 6m wire is fine
  • 4m+ car: Get the 8m/10m long wire

Longer wire won't be an issue as you can ziptie the excess at some appropriate location but with shorter 6m wire your only option is to run it along the roofline and take the risk of wires interfering with airbags.
