Well, if you want to be street-legal & avoid cop troubles (when they're least expected), I would suggest NOT to get films. ~any visibility less than 100%.. i.e. 70%/50%/whatever%

Yes. that's my experience too, so far.
Although, I admit, there have been few instances only, where I have had the car parked in direct sun for long periods (in mumbai/pune kind of climate)
As you are in Pune too, I guess apart from core-summer time, it should be okay to leave the cam in the car.
^ Strictly my opinion.

Yes, I can wait for 15-20 days
I did wait for 20 odd days when I ordered the 0801 from aliexpress also (exactly 2 years ago)

Thanks,

Ace.

EDIT-
Just saw these deals & now confused:

Xiaomivxiao Yi camera with 1010 Mah battery & almost same quality as SJ4000
There is a sale coming up on aliexpress @ 29 March = where this is supposed to cost 70USD

Haven't read anything yet about this, but the form-factor looks so perfect for helmet mounting! here:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/SJCAM...8.13.11.ar12Pv
And this would be 56USD in sale starting 29th March!

:/

Any inputs?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Finally went ahead and ordered the A118C from gearbest last night. Price was $53 (approx Rs 3700), which includes $2 for insurance (wasn't sure if it's required but went ahead with it). Got the message today that it has been shipped. Now the wait begins. Hope it doesn't take too long.

Fingers crossed for you.

I too bought from GearBest. My dashcam was shipped on 01.03.2016, not sure where it is currently. Tracking says, 'Departed from hub'.

Haha. I bookmarked your post for reference to check on the time-lines.

Look at the tracking as of now:

Not sure if the website isn't updated or it is stuck somewhere. Totally clueless.

Mine was shipped by Netherlands Registered Post. Their website says that Track & Trace on international registered mail is supported for specific countries and the list they provided does not include India .

I have complained too and got the shipping costs refunded.

Look at the latest development:

Current status as per 17Track:

.. But with an Alert which could mean any of the following:

I am going mad with this and I find AliExpress better than GearBest. Not sure what I should conclude with that Alert. Shall wait for a day and see if anything changes.

Wish I could reorder from AliExpress.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I got mine from GearBest too, was delivered with the promised 45 days. GB has a limited range, but the rates are often less than AE. I decided to go with GB as I was getting the GPS model here while AE was selling without GPS, prices were about the same.

Did not have much trouble with the shipping and tracking. GB customer care is pretty responsive, better than AE as per my experience. Hope you guys get the cams soon.

My suggestion, wait for a few days. Usually, once the goods reaches customs, the time it takes to clear depends purely on luck. I have had items that took more than 2 weeks to clear customs. Also, the tracking service for these low cost shipping methods is totally unreliable. Trying to track the shipment only gives heartburn. Tracking works only when you pay more for special shipping services. Wait for a few more days and your package should be there without any issues.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

After reading through all the replies and the threads, i've shortlisted these two.
(1) Transcend 16 GB Drive Pro 220, and
(2) SJCAM X1000 Wifi HD 1080P 12MP

The product links on Amazon :
http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00U701N72/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

and

http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B01AP60NEG/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

Can anyone tell me which one is better ?

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

TheMariner good news for you is that Transcend DrivePro 220 is now available at Rs. 9k and 64GB card for Rs. 1175/- I bought that for Rs. 9672/- and 64GB card for Rs. 1275/-
Transcend is good and very easy to setup. Comes with great features. I can upload the video tomorrow from my dashcam for your perusal.

I wont be able to comment on SJCAM X1000, as I have neither used it nor checked its reviews.
