I think the most important feature in a dash cam is ease of mounting/removal from the mount. It helps a lot if it doesn't take more than a couple of seconds to remove it and store in glove box/elsewhere and vice versa to put it on again.

The quality is fantastic. I'll post more videos soon. I love it - its been with me now for ~2000km and a lot of bumpy roads - no audible rattling or loosening yet. Will keep you posted.

No problems in reading number plates on dual cams. I'm using Lukas LK-9370 WD Wi-Fi/Dual camera Dashcam in my Innova for 2 years now. (check post #413)

So, I did uploaded a small 30 seconds video on youtube - the unit is worth the price, but number readability on vehicle moving in front of us is not good. I'll just continue with it for the time being - and will update to a better unit later on.

Day time video quality is excellent.
I am yet to check night time video quality.

It comes with chinese language and voice alerts which cant be overwritten with english.
So that makes all the added features of lane change, distance vehicle warning etc useless.

Which car do you intend on using it in? Ideal mounting options will vary.

Normally for the front, a tweaked low-profile helmet mount works best.

For the rear I've used a 15° tilt FPV mount, which has worked out great for a hatchback rear install.

I am using Xiaomi YI Dash cam for the past 2 months, day time video quality is very good. Night time is average to say the least.
I got the international edition from Aliexpress, this is CE compliant and comes with English menu.

Check out the mini series, 0805, 0806 - all are small and discreet. But they have an inbuilt battery. If parking under sun for long duration, it is best to remove them.

Other option is the A118C/119C models. They are pretty discreet and come with a capacitor, so no worries about exploding batteries.

Finally, if lack of screen isn't a problem, Mobius also has a capacitor based model.

Yes, the Mobius doesn't have a screen. There's a GUI based setup app available for Windows and Mac. The Android app - MobiusActionCam gives you a live view when connected via an OTG adaptor, which helps in aiming while mounting the camera.

Even with the capacitor installed, it isn't recommended to leave the camera in direct sunlight during peak summer months.

With the Civic the ideal mounting location would be the headliner, neodymium magnets come to mind.

The Mobius doesn't come with a capacitor by default, you need to buy it separately and swap it with the battery.

I recently bought a Transcend DP220, which I am using with a 64GB card.

When the card is full, I expected the camera to delete the oldest files in the card and record new files. However, it seems that the camera is deleting old files in some random fashion. For eg: some files from 3rd of September are still on the card, while some files from 26th of September are missing! Generally, files recorded during AM time seem to be deleted first, while files recorded during PM time seem to be kept for longer. None of the files are "protected" files which cannot be overwritten.

File names seem to be reused, which is also an inconvenience.

Is this weird behavior, or is this how the camera works?

I have today updated the firmware to the latest version. Let me see in few days time if it changes anything.

So after spending agonizing days on which dash cam to buy finally bit the bullet and ordered a A118C Dash cam from Ali express for 3.5k. This is my first buy from the Ali guys and hope it works out well.
The delivery will take few weeks. I was initially planning to buy another Transcend Drive pro 100 for around 9k since my existing one is doing a decent job. It has so far now touchwood not given any issues and tantrums and I wanted another piece for the rear. I was to order another one today on Amazon but then I decided to first see how the dash cam would look at the rear of the car.

When I installed the dash on the rear windscreen I found it that was very evident that it would be difficult to conceal the camera giving me further sleepless nights once I buy it. So I decided to drop the idea of another Transcend and looked for some more options on this very thread. Going by recommendations from Bhpians (DryIce,Harsh79) I decided to go for the capacitor based A118C for its better stealth install and fair reliability.
Other options considered and rejected based on my requirements.

1. Blaupunkt 2.0
For – Cheap, locally available.
Against – Not so great video quality and again poor stealth visibility for rear since it comes with a mount.

2. Mobius
For- Stealth, Reliable (Judging from feedback from Bhpians)
Against- No screen display to review videos.

3. Xiaomi Yi
For – Cheap, Good quality Pic
Against- Poor stealth, reported overheating issues.

4. Pioneer DVR 110
For- Pioneer brand and good quality videos on youtube
Against - Unavailable as of now, no stealth install. Would have bought this as i had liked the looks and build quality at least in the pics on web sites.


Now the long wait for the dash cam starts. As of now my payment is yet to be verified so keeping fingers crossed. If it works out well then I would have saved over 5k over the Transcend, money now which can go for a much needed detailing session for my car.
