Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Guys,

Planning to get a dashcam from US. Does A119 support Wifi?. Also, I've many similar models for the Viofo A119 like Blueskysea VIOFO A119, Spy Tec A119, etc.

Which is the correct Viofo A119?

Thanks in advance.

The A119 doesn't support WiFi. Spytec and BlueSkySea co-brand the product in the title, it's from Viofo.

Spytec does Amazon fulfilled with Prime, would be my choice if ordering from the US.

Is it recommended to have wifi for dashcam, as it helps in easy transfer of recorded videos from the device to phone, etc. .. If so, which model is better with wifi.

Thanks.

I personally don't see the utility unless the camera doesn't have a screen as WiFi would help connecting to an app in order to set up and mount the camera. The transfer rates are anyway painfully slow.

You'd be better off using an OTG adaptor + Micro SD card reader to view and transfer videos to a phone, it'll work a lot faster too.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello All!

Been almost 10 days since I got the Viofo A119. Bought on Amazon USA (Spytec).

Been busy with work and as a result haven't fixed the Dash cam yet. Still roaming around with the Blaupunkt. Definitely going to fix it in the upcoming week.

Started the dash cam once using the micro usb cable and recorded a small clip just to make sure the lens and recorded clip is in order.

Wondering whether to hard wire or run it through a cigarette lighter socket extension - bought that as well from Amazon USA along with the Dash cam.

Here are some pics -

Box contents - If you opt for GPS mount, you get both - the GPS as well as non-GPS mount. Wire holder clips with 3M adhesive are also included. The cigarette lighter adapter comes with 2 USB ports on the top, so don't worry about charging your mobile phone in case the cam is not hard wired.

The cigarette lighter socket extension accessory - Including it here even though it may seem off-topic, it is an accessory for the dash cam - one of the ways to power the cam.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Completed installation of the A118 this week and here are some pictures of the mounting:

This is the base of the frame that has to be pasted onto the windshield:
The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-1.jpg

Upon this, the camera is mounted and the power + GPS/rear cam cable can be routed
The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-2.jpg

Top cover is snapped to conceal the wiring
The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-3.jpg

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-4.jpg

Looks totally stock and is barely noticeable even to the occupants. Initial impressions of this camera are:
  • ++ Quality of the product
  • ++ Great lens and recording clarity
  • ++ Edges of video arent blur or distorted and number plates can be read even if they are on the edge
  • ++ Great packaging, and clips are provided even to route the cables, which results in OE quality wiring and harnessing
  • ++ Compact size, and my GT 300 looked like a huge contraption gaining everyones attention everywhere.
  • -- Base of camera should have been smaller to enable complete stealth install.
  • -- Fixed mount though very professional, will not enable swiveling sideways in case any incident should be focussed upon
  • -- Mounting requires some precise skills to get it into the center and mount it straight.
  • -- Polarizer badly needed to prevent reflections
Used my earlier hardwire adaptation to power it from the fuse box. Here is a sample day video and a night video - However, the windshield was not very clean and the wiper blades had something stuck which was not wiping properly. Will be getting a jugaad polariser done soon to nullify the dash reflections

An earlier video from the GT300 is here:

Very nice Quality videos! Were you charged any customs Duty?

The GT300 also has good video quality. How is the night time video quality of the GT300?

I dont have an exact night video, but there is this one at around 6PM:

Since the WagonR was my office drive, havent driven it after 7PM since I return home by 6Pm or so everyday and the SX4 is used for the rest of the times, there are no night videos or highway clips.

Regarding customs, yes I had posted earlier about DHL and its fleecing. Though the payable duty was 300 odd rupees, DHL charged overheads for processing and clearance, whereas I had already paid 15USD extra for shipping and the total payable came to Rs. 1575 Just paid and took the product, partially because I was mightily impressed by the speed of delivery, their customer care and also due to the fact that they attempted delivery a second time due to my absence on the same day. Got this parcel at 8PM in the night whereas I had expected them to deliver only the next day.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

With every 2 wheeler driver wanting to get under the wheels of my SUV in crazy Chennai I Ordered and Got Delivered Mini 0807 from GearBest.

I think this is the first 0807 in this thread.

Ordered via DHL Express - Took 15 days to deliver (after customs delays etc.) - Paid 100USD for Cam + 10 USD Shipping and 3 USD Insurance - Paid additional 2000 Rs (30 USD) to DHL and made a rich guy richer (See Invoice below).

0807 Vs 0806 is basically that 0807 uses super capacitor hence can survive heat (for everyone who knows what Chennai heat is).
Also, the version I ordered comes with OBD connection cable which enables one more feature like parking protection.

Yet to get this installed on my Duster AWD. My 64GB SD card from amazon got delivered only today and my car is in the workshop so will do this later this week and share images.

INSANE CHARGES by DHL. Though DHL called and followed up making the delivery smooth.

For DHL the insane charges is literally Blackmail - They know that the shipment contains something more valuable and the customer desperately needs it delivered (mainly because it is International) and Customs are involved. They can charge anything and get away with it.

Think twice before you choose the DHL option the next time.

Accessories Kit for Mini 0807 in the box - Seen Here is the GPS Unit, OBD2 power cable, 12V accessory cable and other items.

The sad thing is that the kit I ordered did not come with CPL included - I see that it is "optional".

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi all,

I just bought the cheapest dash cam on sale on Amazon. I got it for 998 bucks, but now it is posted as 1098 bucks.

Pretty simple to use, clear instruction pamplet, a camera, suction type holder, charger to be connected to car's 12v socket, 270 degree display. Additionally bought a 4gb sd card which is good for 40 mins of recording. It is easy to view and delete videos on the device itself. Below is the night driving sample video i shot today. Audio quality is poor but makes a lot of sense for 1000 rupees.

Not trying to put a damper on your purchase or mean any offense but this camera is not going to give you usable footage when you'll need it.

Your video shows the camera dropping a lot of frames during the day and it'll be worse with 720p at night (try it) as the hardware isn't capable enough. These cameras are cheap for a reason and it's not because the seller is a nice chap.

Even on a budget, the minimum criteria should be at least the Novatek 96650 chipset + Aptina AR0330 sensor. One can find this combination retailing comfortably below $50. The good ones being the A118c and the G1W models.

Have to agree. For a little more money, even the GT300 is a good choice since it does have wider coverage as well as better video clarity. Though it doesnt perform well at 1080, 720p is what it is meant for and does a decent job there.
