Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I already have the GT300 Dashcam in my vehicle, but have been reading reviews about the VIOFO A119S, and am really impressed.
However I'm not able to purchase on line as most say they do not ship to India! Has anyone ordered the same - how did you manage?

The A119 is available in Gearbest. Not sure of the A119S. Here is the link http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_392248.html?wid=21

You can choose expedited shipping as well, through DHL and reaches within 4-5 days. There was another option of priority line, which is not available with this product.

No looking specifically for the A119S. Thanks anyway.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi,
I am currently visiting USA. Is it wise to purchase dashcam from here for India with respect to quality and price?
If yes than please suggest me some good budget dash cam for my elite i20.
Apart from any other useful car stuff I should buy from here?

Try Foxoffer, they're a VIOFO approved supplier.

Have installed VIOFO A119 must say that this compact device, is VFM, camera is sharp and to top it all it has a capicitor as power source , instead of battery , this is more efficient than one with battery. Got the device from Canada, priced under USD 100. With GPS attachment.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I intend to Order a Dash-cam. Has someone got this professionally installed in Bombay? I am assuming one of the many ICE guys at Opera House will do it - but if someone can give a particular recommendation, it would be pretty handy.

Will order the cam off Amazon or AliExpress.

I order a bunch of stuff from there and have it either shipped or sent over. Your best bet to buy it for a really cheap price is Groupon.

You can actually pick up something decent for 40$ and you will probably get 10-15$ off your first purchase too.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

After working flawlessly for 2.5 years, my DOD LS300W dashcam suddenly stopped working last week. Without any support available for repair, i consider it a piece of junk now. It was purchased from a dutyfree shop at Abudhabi airport back in 2014.

Now i am on the lookout for a new dashcam and I have shortlisted couple of them.
First is VIOFO A119, which is selling at around 6K in Aliexpress/Gearbest. It is being widely discussed in the forum, so nothing much to say about it.
Second in my list is Anytek AT66A, costing around 4K. I could not find any reference in the forum about anyone bought or using it. It has some decent online reviews and seems to be selling is more numbers compared to A119. Except for the cost, both seems to have similar specs and performance levels.

Any expert advice is appreciated.

My uniden igo cam 300 is becoming very blurry and I don't think I can fix it - tried various settings.

So I tried using my lenovo k3 note with the DailyRoads Voyager app.
Lots of hairpin bends and scenery on the climb up to Yelagiri hills.
The horizontal shudder is due to a cheap holder that was not very stable. The license plate of the car in front is barely visible with the 720 setting. The adjustment as the car moves from shadows to light is a bit slow - may be the app or the phone to blame.
I'll try getting a better mobile holder to take care of the shudder.

A very quirky problem I had on the app was that it allows us to "protect" a recording by touching the screen. This ensures the clip is not deleted when it does the loop recording. However a lot of my "protected" recordings sins end up getting saved.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

This DailyRoads Voyager app has been an extremely handy set-up. I have set it up without having to stick anything anywhere on the car. This makes it mobile for multiple cars and also does not alter the aesthetics of the car.

The parts used are -

Arkon GPS Friction Dash Mount and
Aduro U Grip Slide Dashboard Car Mount

I use an old Moto G - First Generation.

People who are using the Daily Roads Voayager - are you using a SIM card? I am not. Does it help if you use one? I figured it would just drain the battery and use the Moto G on Airplane mode, although it has a prepaid 3G Sim card inside.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

After being in a couple of accidents (not too major, thankfully) in the last 6 odd months, I decided to go for a dash cam to have evidence against the errant drivers. For example, the latest accident happened when I was rear-ended while at a still in a traffic signal, and a cabbie at a good speed (not sure how much though) hit me hard from behind. That's a story for a different thread, I guess.

I looked through various reviews and this thread as well, and finally settled for the ODRVM car dash cam via Amazon India (link). It cost me Rs. 9.2k, and now I am waiting for its arrival. Reviews for this cam are available on Youtube, such as and . Looks good, but will not know until I test for myself. Will update with the performance of this kit once I have it. Still, if anyone in the forum uses or has experience with this particular cam, please share your thoughts.

This is one of the many versions of the A118 available around. I have a similar spec'ed camera from VIOFO whose details I have posted around in this thread. Instead of paying such a high cost to this, you could have got it all in all for less than 5k including expedited shipping from Gearbest. Even the newer version A119 is available for less than the price you have paid for this. You will get Wifi and GPS in addition to better image quality and regular software updates and bugfixes. However, supposing the hardware quality is the same with the one you ordered, its pretty good and the recording quality is also clear.

I think this should also support a rear camera input/GPS. If so you can also consider adding a rear camera.

Thanks. Yeah I realised the price difference only after placing and paying for the order. My bad. Let's hope it lives up to the name

The rear camera, is that for the reverse parking? I have an in-built reverse camera in the car so wouldn't need that.
