Yes I tried rebooting it. I see the apple logo on the screen.

How do I completely restore my ipod? Will I lose all the data on it?

So the apple logo does not go away.

In tht case you need to restore it. One way is via iTunes's restore feature.

If that does not work (the PC enviroment is funny) then you might need to format it and start from scratch.

No the apple logo goes away after a few seconds.
After that the ipod works properly.

The thing is that it does not get recognized in my laptop in iTunes as well as windows explorer.
I deleted the USB drivers from. Control Panel --> Devices and Hardware --> Universal serial bus.
Then I restarted my pc with the ipod connected.
Windows re-installed all the drivers except my ipod.

Then I tried ipod diagnostics.
For that you need the press the middle and top buttons till the screen goes blank. Then immediately press middle and left buttons for about 10 seconds. After that the diagnostics tool starts. But mine gets stuck at "HP DETECT".
So again I need to reboot it.

I also tried connecting to other usb ports but I get the same error.

I think I'll just get a new cable and try. I hope it works.

HP Detect stands for Head Phone Detect. This is wierd? try doing this with a headphone connected.

Re: The Great Ipod Thread - All Ipod and MP3 player related threads are merged here.

Fellow Ipod users, need a bit of help.

I have a 8GB nano Ipod (3rd generation I believe) which I have been using for the past 3+ years. A few weeks back the battery drained off and would not start again, however long I keep it connected to the charger. When I connect it to my PC, it is detected by the Apple software , and I can view the contents.

Prior to this, the player was running fine with an average battery of 1+ day of music. Googled on this, it seems to be a generic problem with the solution being a hard reset. Did that several times, nothing worked out. Any feasible solutions out here?

Haven't shown it yet to any repair shop yet; would like to hear your inputs on the same. Btw the player was a gift and the bill is not available, so going to an Apple store doesn't seem likely. Also any known repair shops in Mumbai/Pune would be helpful.

^Ninja, there's a shop in Sagar Arcade on FC Rd who does repairs on iPods/iPhones.
Its the first shop behind the staircase.
Show it to him. He may be able to solve your problem

Related to the problem, when you sync it to the PC, does the iPod charge?
If so, then maybe (speculating) the charger has gone kaput. Sounds stupid, I know, but sometimes the solution is quite simple.

Re: The Great Ipod Thread - All Ipod and MP3 player related threads are merged here.

My iPod Classic 120 gig is throwing up too many issues now:

1) It wouldn't get recognized by my laptop as I have explained some posts back. Because of this now my laptops usb ports have stopped recognizing all other usb drives except my BB.
Before the ipod issue, all my pendrives and stuff would get recognized instantly.

2) Yesterday afternoon I charged the ipod and the battery was completely charged in about 3 hrs. After that I listened to a couple of songs and kept it. After 20 mins or so I again switched it on and got the "Connect to Power" screen.

3) I charged it for about 4 hrs at night and today morning when I tried to start it, it just wouldn't come on. I tried everything. It doesn't reboot, doesn't charge, doesn't connect to the pc. Nothing comes up on the screen.

I think this ipod is gone now. Do you guys know any reliable and not too expensive repair guy in mumbai?

I'll try is this ipod works or else I'll buy a new one, maybe an itouch 5 soon.

The new Ipod Touch (the 5th gen one with the 4" retina display) uses a different adapter and I am not sure if it will charge from most current generation car HUs.

Woah! Right now my iPod started all of a sudden. I don't know how. The battery shows full. This time I'll see how long it lasts.

Btw, talking about the iTouch 5, I never charge my iPod in the car. I charge it at home using a charger because I use an Aux cable in the car. My HU has usb but doesn't support iPod I guess.

Re: The Great Ipod Thread - All Ipod and MP3 player related threads are merged here.

I want a new iPod and I am very confused between the new iPod Nano and the new iPod Touch.

IMO :
Nano + points : just the price
- points : lack of Wifi, small screen size might make navigation inconvenient. (Why the hell did they have to change the design.. the Nano 4th gen. was the best there was)

Touch + points : screen size, Wifi, iOS
- points : price.

Now the interesting part which might make things easier or difficult is this.. currently I use a 2-odd year old Windows Phone which has terrible battery life, can't work beyond Edge and has a non-working camera. So, I will be looking at replacing the phone in some time.

Hypothetically, what would make more sense :

1) Nano + iPhone
2) Touch + Android

I am neutral towards iOS and Android. I definitely want to experience iOS - just don't understand whether it makes more sense in an iPhone or an iPod Touch.

- Basically get a big screen phone which would double up as a portable tablet
- Get a Nano. A lightweight device very handing for walking/jogging etc.

Hello all. I have an iPod (the ones that look like an iPhone 3) and I find that it does not open any of the games and software that was installed on it, barring the stock ones with the apple OS. I tried using the reset function in settings but that didn't help. There is an option to reset where it deletes the stuff, so don't want to do that as don't have the software and songs put on it.

Any advice would be welcome.

If you don't mind killing the battery faster, my suggestion is get one instrument that does it all. I use an iPhone 4 and don't see that an iPod offers me something that I don't have on my phone. This comes from experience as I have three iPods (shuffle, mini and one resembling iPhone 3). I have wound up using my phone only for everything and the iPods sit collecting dust at home.

If only it had wifi, this would have been a no-brainer. That and the small screen size make it really difficult to chose. I actually held the 7th gen Nano, didn't enjoy it as much.

But then, given that I'd be using the iPod only during travel, gym, something as comprehensive as the Touch might not be necessary.

I am very against that. 1) it sucks battery; 2) there's a restriction on the amount of music you can carry. 3) more data, slower the phone.

Plus, managing music is not much easier on an iPod than on the phone.

I have a Nano which I use it for Radio/Audio-Books and very small amount of music. In fact next to zero.

But since I also want to carry my bulk music, I like to have a primary device outside my phone for music. Either the classic Ipod or Cowon class player.

Agreed it adds to the gadgets, but I like it that way. Phone can double up as a quick camera or video etc. But for music, I would like look elsewhere.

Yes its good to have integrated devices, but some how I dont feel drawn towards it. Another angle is the price. With an Iphone, thanks to usage, one may be compelled to change/upgrade soon 2-3 years. But music players typically outlast this aspect.

A Case in example : I have the first gen Video Ipod (80GB). I have been listening to it almost every day for an hour or two since 2006 and its been working. I wont be so sure about the phone thanks to its much more intense usage.
