B&T I am not going to answer the 2nd question. You know more about transducer design than me.

I assumed that the other spiders were added below the spider shown in the photo. It is when I saw 5 spiders in the original specs I asked for Mms and hence when Mms gets so important Cms and Bl do too. Amit now you know why I asked for those 3 specs.

I am NOT a fan of high Xmax, high Mms woofers. The may make low bass but seem to loose out in reproducing the soul of the music.

Anything more than 2 spiders I feel is not nesscary and 2 spiders also only if they are spaced out. otherwise all they really do is increase the stiffness of the compliance and are really one stiff spider.

LOL Poor amit !! hes the one who imported the twins with a huge amp
I will not makke more Pj's. I hope the spelling technique works though, lol.

Not so soon, watching sam posting anatomy of (sorry morphology)spiders that too invisibly made me remember the following:

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web( thread), any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong? ( lol known as yeti !!)
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood. (heheh)
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead (below)
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime ( Ice crime)
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time. (invisible)
To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up (discussions getting too serious)
You'll find the Spider man.

PS: This post if deemed pathetic, useless and a national waste (depends on the mod) I hereby and thereby give fuuull permeson for this post to be gheun takked.

lol...Look at all of you beshram log......this thread is getting buggy.

Anyways, i tried to contact DD, but could not get through because of some network problems.

But i did ask this spooky spider thing on DD forums, they say all the woofers from 25xx, 35xx, 91xx, 95xx, 99xx have 4 or more than 4 spiders.

I shall certainly ask them for these three parameters...

BTW where was this spec where you read about 5 spiders? Any link?

On a serious note,
maybe the additional spiders are advised because:
1. More spiders=stiffer movement of the woofer=hence tight bass?
2. More restriction of the movement for tight bass-heat build up and maybe the extra spider help in the cooling, hence tighter bass with less heat build up !!

Ref : Speaker with passive voice coil cooling - US Patent 5940522

the two vents and the circumferential air flow path are positioned, interconnected and designed to facilitate air being moved in selected directions there through in response to movement of the speaker cone and/or the spider so as to remove heat from the voice coil and to dissipate the heat, at least in part, in the material of the basket.

...
3. More spiders, at least one more as spaced apart as Navin mentioned, would be essential in large Xmax subs to keep the VC positioned co-axial to the magnet throughout the travel of the VC

It would counteract dynamic imbalances of the cone and surround. Otherwise, played full tilt the VC may tend to wander too near the magnet inside periphery, reducing fidelity

Amit, I am hoping to see your install as clean as this:

Considering the amount you've spent, the cleanliness should be justified.

Wow!! neat setup.

Certainly Sir, will try to keep up to your expectations.

Will start off with the setup soon.....To start of its gonna be damping, after that anything else.

why have 5 spiders do the job of one spider that is as stiff as all 5.

when spiders are spaced atleast they do the job of keeping the voice coil centered better. And to do this all you really need is 2 spiders. anymore is pure marketing BS.

Well I cant really debate much on the same( Iam a n00b), however in this endeavour to learn I think adding more spiders makes sense on paper to me and in actual condtions how much of a difference it makes !! that you and the other gurus will have to answer.

And also the sub is custom made and the installer recommended them to go for the extra spiders at $10 each, I really dont know if its a pure marketing B.S ( brightest scheme? )

I also gathered the following from the DD website:
New Spiders: A new spider topology was developed to increase the linear suspension travel and further reduce sources of distortion. This dual spider design is capable of increased throw with necessary control at high excursion.

DDAudio Digital Designs Speakers Made in the USA
DD2500a series page
Multiple synthetic spider suspension
The suspension follows our philosophy of multiple spider layers for tight bass with low fatigue over the long haul.

And also Amit or Amits bro was told from the installer

"The reason he said to add more spider is that after 2 years of use the tightness of the woofer tends to reduce....To keep that intact they add more spiders to the same. But as i said, wait, a let me get it confirmed from the guy in US again"

I did read something similiar when googling also, well almost the same I guess.
