Guys,

Anyone had a chance to compare the JVC 800/814 with Pioneer AVH-4050?. Those are having similar specs and priced in the same range. I want some opinion on which
has better Sound Quality.

Thank you.

Guys,

I know there are lot of satisfied owners of JVC AVX 800/814. I would like your inputs on few things so that I can decide on which one (800 or 814) to go for.

I currently have a SONY MEX-R1 DVD player and it has trouble playing DVDs. It pauses for a few seconds or skips once in every 2 - 3 minutes and is very annoying. Does the JVC have this problem as well?.

Also I will be using the 800 or 814 to play songs from USB pen drive/portable Hard disk and IPOD. Does it take long time for the JVC to read and start playing songs from USB/IPOD?. Between the two (800/814) which takes lesser time to read?

Also I am not really worried about the detactable face plate (available in 814) and I read from the forums that 800 has lot more tuning options and am more inclined towards the 800. The last I heard two weeks in Hyderabad is that both are available at almost the same price. So any particular reason you think I should go for the 814 and not the 800.

Also if you have any inputs on the enhancements made to 814 (interms of better screen or responsiveness to the touch screen or better seek times etc) when compared to 800, please let me know.

Thank you.

I have been using the AVX800 for few months now.

- I have not faced any problem with skipping of DVDs
- I use a 40GB USB HDD with my AVX800. It has around 16GB of music stored. The initial read takes around 30 seconds which I have got used to. Once it loads up it takes no time to scan through folders, select songs etc. If you can live with the initial 30 seconds delay, its a breeze. I presume AVX814 also will take the same time. I have tried in the AVX44 and it takes the same time
- For Ipods you need to buy the Ipod adapter in order to get the iPOD options
- Tuning options, yes, the main thing which is missing in 814 and available in 800 is time alignment which can help create the soundstage where you want. I think it is a gross omission in the 814.
- I have not personally used the 814, so cannot comment on its pluses. If available for the same price, I would anyday go for the 800. The detachable face plate is a good thing, especially when you give the car for servicing etc, but I guess I can live with not having it.

Thank you dinu2506 for your reply. How do you find the SQ of the AVX?. My primary requirement is SQ all the bling factor is only secondary. Did you get a chance to compare the AVX 800 with any other similar priced, similar featured HUs?.

Thank you.

Note from mod, do not recommend brands you deal in

iphone

Does anyone have a way to make the iphone work with the AVX series? I have an AVX 44 Single DIN and while I can charge the iphone through the USB cable, I can't access any music from it. This is quite saddening and I am desperate to find a solution to access my music from iphone.

Appreciate any advice you have

For the features offered, other brands were beyond my budget. I don't have first hand experience with other brands, but I have found the SQ pretty good, no complaints.

I'm not using any protective film, tried initially, but it was difficult to get a 7" one. I did not want to use any cheap ones. I have a steering remote as well, so I hardly use the touch screen except rarely for some tuning options.

That is surprising cos the head unit reads only pendrives AFAIK.

Though i prefer to use my pendrive, It can read my seagate 160GB External HDD with ease, but for the intial reading time it takes close to a minute.

The only restriction is that the HDD should be formatted FAT32, so the max capacity can be 32 GB. If it is formatted NTFS, it will not read. I have been using this HDD for months now without a problem.
