Are you sure? I think there is a restriction that the drive has to be formatted in FAT32 which restricts it to 32 GB max. So even though your HDD is 160GB can you check in your PC whether it has been formatted to 160GB capacity in NTFS or it is a FAT32 partition with 32 GB.

It is fat32, the partition size is little over 100GB.

OT: if you format the drive using software other than WinXP or 2000, you can get larger partitions.

Thank you guys for your reply.

Based on your replies I assume that both 800 and 814 would take about the same time for the initial seek/read times.

How big a difference does the TA on 800 make?. Did anyone try with and without the TA and see the difference?.

I can live without the 5.1 option on 800 but if the TA does make a lot of difference I would probably settle down for 800. The 800 is about couple of grands more than the 814. Also given that 800 model is about 2 years old and I would be fitting a 800 unit which was manufactured 2 years ago.

The only advantage I see on the 814 is that, the detachable face plate and a more recent batch manufactured from the company.

Thank you.

Tha main advantage of TA is to create the correct soundstage. For eg, it can help in bringing the sound from the sub to come from the front instead of rear. Especially important in sedans where the sub is in the boot. Basically it delays the sound coming from different channels so that the channels can be blended to create the soundstage we want.

Dinu2506, Thank you for your reply. I understand what TA does, I however wanted to know if the TA on the 800 really did what the TA is supposed to do. In other words was the soundstage much better after the TA adjustments on 800 were made?.

Thank you.

Its like a "good to have". Its true that you can move the soundstage. But if you ask me whether you can live without it, definitely yes. If you are into fiddling with all these options, you will enjoy it. Its your call.

Thank you once again. However I do have one last question for you. Is the TA and other tuning options worth the extra 2 grands in your opinion?.

Depends on the person. If it was me, I would go for the 800 at 2 grand extra.

Thank you. I just wanted an opinion from some person who has used it to know if the TA was worth the 2 grands. If the person who has used himself does not consider it worthy of 2 grands then I thought of passing the 800 and going for 814. I like to fiddle with the options so I think it is the 800 for me. Thank you for your reply.

I am having a small problem with my AVX 706. Nothing technical though.
While I am driving the car it is giving a rattling noise. If I just put the hand on the front panel it goes off. But as soon as I remove noise again start. Any fix ?

If it is a mechanical rattle, you can probably remove and refix properly, maybe give some packing if there is any gap.

I finally settled down for an AVX 44. I am unable to transfer my phonebook from Nokia N73 to the AVX 44. When I select the phonebook from the menu and after I enter the pin , the phone simply disconnects from the HU. The pairing went fine and the phone is able to connect to the HU when I enter the car and I am able to pick up calls etc. It is only when I try to transfer the phonebook contents I am having this problem. Anyone here has been successful with phonebook transfer from N73 to any of the AVX HUs?. I see that dockap has the same problem with 800 and N95 but I thought the problem would have been resolved with the newer AVX 44. However the problem still exists.
