The active setup is what I liked best. Ask the Hermit; I'm sure he agrees

Congrats Frank. Nice choice of equipment there.

A little suggestion though. This might compliment your Lucies pretty well.

Lucent Tweeters

if the transfer fuction is a simple linear 2nd/3rd/4th order XO then you can use an electronic XO and not worry about things such as frequency/impedance response anomalies of the woofer or tweeter.

So this should be checked on every HU have a XO in built to decide which XO to use?

EDIT :
Excellent choice Doc

@frank, if you have 4+1 channels of amplification, you can always try the active setup for a while. The only additional expense will be a bit extra money on speaker-wires. Since you don't have crossovers for the Luccent speakers with you anyway, maybe you can skip buying the Luccent XO, and spend that money on speaker wires.

OR, run the setup passive for a while and then later, try running it active. You will be able to postpone the upgrade-itch :P for a bit longer, as this will be a nice change in the setup. You'll also be able to judge for yourself which setup you like best.

im anyways getting the tweet and xo from hermit audio. i can try both.
i have only 4 channels of amplification, from the ground zero TA120Mk2 amp. the 5th and 6th channels are only for the sub.
hence when i go there, i will be able to decide. by the way, my front door pads are being fibre glassed as we speak, and damping is going to be done in places where there's no fibre. that will surely make a big difference, as there was minimal amount of damping on the doors earlier.

@frank, you'll need a minimum of 4+1 channels to go active with the 9887 (in front + sub mode): 2 channels for the tweeters, 2 channels for the midbasses and one channel for the sub. In addition to the 4-ch amp, You have an RF mono with you, right?

Yup. But that was also because you werent able to get the power you desired running to the speakers. So, bridging or going active were the only two options.

Frankie, dont do the active business. Its not like we can reduce the XO frequency greatly or get the Lucies to do anything extraordinary. It sounds just right with the supplied crossovers and theres a very very wide range of tweeter attenuation possible.

If you do want to do something fancy, we could bi-amp the set.
