that is good. Can you please explain which hardware makes it possible ?

are you able to control which channel goes to which audio out port ?

if this is so, may be you can route the second channel to the rear monitors headphone jacks, so that the rear passengers can enjoy the movies with headsets...

I just ordered the LCD monitors. I guess reason can be anything, if they are looking for greasing their palms :(

This is the mail I received from DHL

"The subject shpt is detained for the Preventive examination.

Please arrange to provide the Authority letter for the preventive examination.

The copy of AWB, Invoice has been attached for your reference.
"

A-ha, it is the quantity that is causing the problem. 1 would have got past, 2 is not usual.

DHL is being prim and propah - they want an authorization letter from you permitting the Customs to open the package to inspect. Customs are much more modern now, so you need to supply the proof that this is for personal use. Take some pictures of the headrests of your car and indicate where these will be mounted. Ask DHL where you can email them the pictures and your letter declaring personal use. Also mention that the items are generally available in the local market, but you have imported them because they were cheaper and had some feature better than the locally available ones. If you have a screen shot of the order page, enclose a copy of that.

Yes, that's correct.

I have ordered only 2, one for right side and one for left side.
DHL has not asked for any proof from me, except to give an authority letter authorizing DHL to get it custom cleared.

Also these types of monitors are not available in the general market.
And the order page has different value than the invoice. Please advice, asap.

Only you know that the exact one is not available, otherwise a "Headrest Monitor" is available off-the-shelf everywhere - nothing illegal, imported legally by importers.

Do you have an invoice copy? Otherwise, Order page will just show Order Value less than Invoice Value - the difference being Shipping Charges. Understandable.

Anyhow, see if things go through with just the authorization.

Finally received the shipment. The Prevention department reassessed the value to twice of what shipper had sent. DHL told me duty of 1400 will be charged. I oked.

These are nice huge screens, ideal for watching movies
But daylight visibility sucks!!!

Need to first figure out the connectivity equation and then the physical installation part.

Integrating these screens turned out to be more difficult than I expected at every step.
1. The connectors did not match (HDMI/DVI-D output vs Composite input)

2. Screens got stuck in customs - I missed them on my recent 1400km drive

3. When the shipment reached - I figured out that seller has forgotten to include all components :(

4. These screens have some weird vertical viewing angle, i.e. even at 90deg (perpendicular) the visibility is not 100%, and drops rapidly below 90%. And that is by design, they are designed to be viewed at 130 deg angle vertically! Initial tests were very disappointing and I felt I wasted my money. However, later got an idea and did an intensive surgery for both the screens and fixed the issue.

Both the (SHARP) LCD screens are now modified and ready to be installed. Presently I am working on last bits of connectivity issues and holders for the screen.

Below is the image of my Plaster of Paris based fitment prototype, to validate design, check viewing angles, practicality and overall feasibility. Overall I am very pleased with the setup. Except for some 4-5 minor corrections that I need to make to the prototype, it has come out very well.

As you can see, broad daylight visibility is now decent. Also visible range for each screen now covers entire area - full rear seat (L to R) and for a 6ft person sitting to anyone sleeping on the seat.

Presently I am running the screens from VGA output using a VGA to Composite scaler. Waiting for DVI-D to VGA adapter to run this on separate feed.

Here is image of the other side.

You have modified sunvisor display to headrest. can it also be placed lower and tilted upwards so that it will not be visible to the thieves.
Do you get analog video out through a dvi-d to vga converter? i could not figure it out.
