Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

gurus, i have a kenwood KAC-M845 4 ch amp - 60w RMS x 2 + 180w RMS x 1 (bridged) for sub. pls clear my doubts :

1. can this 4ch amp be used in a tata nano which has only a 24AH battery - as the amp has a 40amp fuse ?

2. if yes, should i downrate the 40amp fuse to 25amp ? will this suffice ?

3. also, front component speakers + rear co-axials would give a complete sound stage ? or a front components + sub would give better sound stage ? which of these 2 options preferable ?

1. Yes, it can be used in a Nano. But, the electrical system in the Nano is weak. So, do not use the audio system when the engine's not running.
2. No, leave the fuse on the amp as it is. If you downrate it, the fuse will blow.
3. Front components + subwoofer is the best option as it would produce the full sound spectrum.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Guys,

I am looking for speaker suggestions to go into a Linea T-Jet to replace the stock speakers. I am leaning towards JBL Infinity.

1) Components for front (6.5").
2) Coax for rear door (6.5"). Won't go for 6 x 9.
3) Damping material: Can I buy this online? As it is difficult to find the same in Siliguri.

Budget for 1 + 2 + 3 = 10 to 15K.
4) Which is a good solution to add a sub?

Cheers!

Thanks mate. I want Infinity/similar.

GT6-S699 - that is 6" x 9" and I want components. The front door need 6.5". Rear doors, AFAIK is 5.25", but takes 6.5" as well.

It is JBL Series. Infinity costs a little more in the tune of 3k but it is better than JBL.

DO audition both of them and decide. I personally have an Infinity Kappa series on my Santro and an double happy. I use the below infinity model

Kappa 62.9i - Infinity

Thanks Infinity Reference might be okay for me. Reason: The Linea HU's output is not very high, not good enough for Kappa, I think. I remember reading something to this effect some place.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Hi All,

I bought a Sony DSX-S310BTX last year... and am now in the market to upgrade speakers to match this thing. This audio system has 17W of RMS power output. The tech specs are available here:

Sony DSX-S300BTX Digital media receiver at Crutchfield.com

It's time to now upgrade my speakers to bump up the audio experience of my car. I stay in Mumbai (Bandra), and have gone to numerous car audio dealers - but havent been able to decide just what speakers I need for my car.

I have used JBL speakers in the past, and I really like them. I've gone to several JBL resellers in the Dadar area, but none of them have been able to explain to me with confidence whether I need an amp or not (I dont want thump. I just want clear, natural music, even if its at loud volumes).

I would like to spend not more than Rs. 10,000 on the speakers. Dont want to get an Amp unless I really need it.

Questions:
1) Does anyone know of knowledgeable dealers in Central Mumbai who will be able to give me demos of the different JBLs / Infinitys out there?
2) What do the experts think - is an amp absolutely REQUIRED with my setup? Currently, any high volume distorts my speakers, and I cant even raise my receiver volume to 50%. That makes me believe that its a speaker issue, not an amp issue. True?

Thanks!!

Altis J 2din options
I am planning to buy the Altis D J model which comes without the ICE but with 4 speakers.
I am planning to get one from the US as I will be visiting shortly.
With a budget of ~$400-500, I am looking for good sound, BT connectivity as minimum. DVD and reverse option will be nice to have.

Can the gurus give me models that I can choose from ?

Get a Kenwood or Pioneer 2DIN unit. Most of the 2DIN HUs in that range have all that you ask for.

First check on the their website for models. If you want an audition, visit Fry's or Best Buy - they usually have them on the wall. Then check on eBay or Amazon for the same model - likely to have much better prices you can order online for.

Thanks for the advice. Another question for you in that I see models that vary from 6.1" to 7" display. Is there a compatibility issue between cars and receivers ?

Will the toyota warranty get void if I get the installation done elsewhere (electricals)

7" (17.8cm) is the maximum size that can be accommodated in the space allocated in your car i.e 2DIN. Choose any model to your taste.

Just make sure a coupler is used to connect the HU to the car electricals and warranty would stay intact.Good installers generally use it.

No. The interfaces are pretty much internationally standard both from the harness (the car manufacturer has already provided necessary connection terminations) as well as from the HU Inputs/Outputs point of view. There can be a few wire color differences between car manufacturers, but then almost all decent installers know how to use harness adapters (available locally).

No, it won't, but please read the Warranty terms yourself - it is not very complicated. A car manufacturer cannot provide an open interface, and then not expect the user to use that interface. Also, ICE is an independent sub-system in a car, and does not influence any other sub-system.

Well, not unless you put such a powerful subwoofer system which makes everything vibrate and fall apart . Just joking!

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Guys,
Need help. I upgraded the HU in my Swift to Sony XAV 63 (double din, LCD). Though it support .mp4 and .avi video play back from USB, I am getting an "unsupported resolution" error while playing some .mp4/.avi files (mostly video songs downloaded from youtube). I am not an expert on video format and is unable to identify the format differeces between the files that played successfully and files that failed to play (all are in same format - .avi or .mp4)..

can anyone help..

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q

Need some advice folks!

I'm gonna replace the Boston S60 components in my Scorpio with something with a laid back signature (The bostons are too bright for my liking now). I've got a pair of Rockford Prime components in my Swift and am really satisfied with them. The reason i don't want to go for Rockford again is because of mere repitition I have shortlisted the Morel Maximos and JL Audio TR 650CSI. I have heard the JL's and liked them. But just out of curiosity, how do the Morel's sound? These will be amplified. Getting mixed opinions on the Morel's, hence confused.
