Wouldn't put down the TD details of MG since its a Nexon thread but just to put it out there, honestly these two cars are generations apart.
ZS EV is a good car, if it was from a reputed/established car company in India. Since it is from MG, it carries some risks in terms of after sales...

Kona is the other car that is way better put together than Nexon. But, both those come at nearly 50% higher cost, and also perhaps higher costs of spares, if & when needed.

Not defending or promoting Nexon - But, Nexon certainly has one major advantage over it's rivals - Better ride quality for Indian roads.

Re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

Visited Rudra Motors, Wagholi, Pune a couple of weeks back. Nexon EV related interactions were handled by a TML employee instead of any dealership employee.

TML employee was the worst sales person I ever encountered. He asked me about my current car, occupation & daily commute distance. When I answered those questions, he couldn't care any less about providing me a test drive which I had asked for. The way he behaved, I think he must be doing Tata Motors a favor by using his personal Nexon EV for demo/test drive purposes.

Re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

Took a TD of the Nexon EV last week at Sagar Motors Noida. About 11 kms comprising city and expressway. All the good features of the Nexon - ride and handling, solid build, decent and comfortable cabin - with a whopper of an engine. Seriously, this was my first time driving an EV, and the acceleration off the block took me by surprise. In D mode the car is zippy enough to wade through city traffic. In S mode things get maniacal.

They have a dedicated sales person for the EV, who was patient enough in answering my queries.

Q1. I live on the 19th floor, and my car stays in the basement. How do I charge the car?

A. We have a tieup with Tata Power. They'll come to your house and create an extension from your meter (in the basement) directly to your parking spot. All you need to do is plug in the jack at night.

Q2. What if my neighbor buys an EV, and uses my jack to charge his vehicle while I'm away?

A. Both the power box and the jack are lockable. When you are charging the car the jack stays locked till you unlock it. When you are away the box stays locked.

Q3. I've heard battery packs are very expensive in EVs. What if I need a replacement battery?

A. Tata is offering a 8 year, 1.6 lakh km warranty on the Battery pack currently. In 8 years the cost of the pack should come down.

Some pics of the test car, and the brochure attached.

Hi guys! Had a chance to drive the EV again after my initial test drive few weeks back. This time went to the track (drive the lightning event) and have to admit it was fun!

Also saw the Lux variant for the first time and below are few pics (also on my Insta handle iGuru Crazy). Sitting in XZ+ and Lux back to back made me realise Lux wasn't such a big upgrade and I'm used to sunroofs for the last 10 years. So didn't feel the extra 3-4 features were worth an extra lakh. That being said, I'm still on the fence about buying it outright and would prefer subscription. So will decide in April about my purchase. Let me know if you have any questions. Had a good discussion with the product specialists (like max power in D mode is ~69 PS).

Auto lights and auto rain sensing wipers don't have any special mention on the stalk (they just work apparently) and no way to turn it on or off.

Also, I test drove all the 3 EVs in the market and this is the bottom line

1. Nexon EV - Amazing value and best ride for our conditions. Only negative is that it could have had more features.

2. Hyundai Kona EV - Great range and fun to drive (~400 nm torque). Lot of options and customizations inside (driving customizations with regen paddles). But rear comfort is terrible. Bad enough to not buy instantly. No second thoughts!

3. MG ZS EV - Best all rounder. Great quality interiors and amazing performance like Kona. However, more expensive than Kona with pretty average range. Also, would think twice about brand reputation. Too early to judge but from sales experience, they are a hit/miss. Had to complain on twitter to get the head office to offer a test drive at home. So, good reaction but poor service at dealership to begin. Moreover, 3-4 months waiting period for delivery prior to Corona is nonsense. Imagine how bad it'll be now!

Anyway my pick is Nexon EV. No nonsense vehicle and any headaches with Tata service quality is mitigated because it's an EV.

Re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

Somewhere in my previous post I mentioned that someone from TATA POWER has come and inspected my house and orally said that it would cost Rs. 5,500/- to install the home charger. The guy didn't respond after I demanded for a formal quote along with BoM. (I insisted on the quote because if the local vendor compromises on quality/ specs of the wiring which if it leads to fire while charging then everyone would start saying that EV is a failed concept.)

As he didn't respond with the quote I've shot a mail to customercare@tatamotors.com regarding the same. Today morning he called back saying that installation of home charger would be free for me and for those whose required length of the wire is less than 15m. (3m in my case)

Re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

I have been following up with the dealer for the delivery of my car for long and the experience had been ok until yesterday. From Day 1, I have informed the dealership that I will be doing self-insurance underfunding that I get from my banker as it offers me a much lower premium as well as better interest rate. The delivery order sent to the dealership 12 days before clearly shows this as well. All my payments have been done and one of the so-called seniors from the dealership yesterday told my SA that I needed to call him. When I called, he informed me that it was not allowed to get an insurance policy from outside as it was a dealer policy. I told him that I was never informed about such a policy and neither I am a first time buyer and I knew my rights. However, the conversation was not pleasant and he informed that he would need to check with seniors if this was allowed and all.. Certainly not a good experience especially when I am on the brink of getting the vehicle delivered..

Don't let it ruin your mood, several dealers pull this stunt at the last minute and it is in no way legal.

Stick to your guns. Emails to Tata and to the dealer with posts on social media will eventually sort these out for you.

If there is a record of this (the delivery order) and if the dealership had agreed to this term, be firm with your decision. Also, it is not legal for the dealers to force the customer take insurance from them. Of course, they can deny cashless claims etc., but can't force you to take insurance from them.

Send them an official mail copying Tata motors with the scan copy of the delivery order. This will put it on record. Do not be satisfied with any assurances given over phone calls. Make sure there is proper record of the communication.

In case you have the self insurance clause in writing then you need not worry. Ask them to give you a written reply that insurance has to be purchased from the dealership and tell them you are going to make complaint with IRDA.

Also tell the SA that you have his call recording forcing you to purchase insurance from the dealership and you are in any case going to file a complaint. Tell him IRDA has been formed to keep a check on exactly such tactics.

It worked for me while buying my Seltos. The dealer matched the rates at the end.

Re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

The dealer has not provided me anything in writing and nor until yesterday the SA or his boss had informed me about whatever policy they say they have. I have provided everything in writing including the DO which states insurance is covered in funding. I do not think the dealer will ever provide me anything in writing. However, the bank person who handled the insurance stuff with the disbursement had called the dealer multiple times so they were very much aware of the facts. The biggest fact is the written DO issued in the dealers name directly. I have written to the dealership and waiting for a feedback from them. Hopefully, it should be resolved today...

Re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

I have booked the Top Model ie the XZ + Lux. I got to hear from somehere that the Lux model may be delayed due to Corona problem in China from where the sunroofs are sourced. Anyone has any more details on this ?

The dealer is insisting on going ahead with XZ + model which he can allot me by Padwa. But I am keen on the Lux. I am a fan of sunroof and leather seats which when fitted by the company are best.

They have limited stock of the Lux model. That model is coming to dealers but not thick and fast. If you can wait until the dealer gets the Lux model allocated to him, then you should wait otherwise XZ+ is not a bad choice either.

Re: Tata builds a Nexon EV. EDIT: Launched at ₹13.99 lakhs

My dealer says that it'll take 3 more days for the home charger to be installed and the car to be delivered.

Has anyone apart from Mr. Uday (friend of Ph03n!x) got the car delivered or atleast home charger installed?
