@clevermax, thats an average shot by your standards sir! Nice colors though!
We often end up with shots like these at sunrise/sunset. What can be done to improve here? Make the photograph much more interesting?
Please don't take it personally clever, just trying to learn here.
And well, I am eyeing th D3100. Has all the features I might need intially and some more. Perfect bang for bung. |
Thanks DryIce, I will try to improve!
D3100? Hope it will perform better than the not-so-admired-by-reviewers D3000.

Sorry, I disagree. It is an excellent composition. It is not just about sunset. It is only a background for the people on the beach. Yes, they are there, look for them.
BTW, I am posting a scanned photo which I took in 1992 using a fully manual Minolta 202, that means MF & manual exposure mode only.
It was at Pearl Valley near Bangalore. Why is it called Pearl Valley, may be this is why. Attachment 442415 |
Thank you Samurai. yes I wanted to cover the people in the beach as well. Luckily there were not so many of them. There are two camera flashes and at least 5 fishing boats with lights on the horizon. The sky was extremely clear and the sea was very calm - heard no sounds of waves. Went there to meet one of my FB friends in person for the first time, he had clicked similar shots with his D90. He's not part of this forum though.
Such an old shot from a manual SLR.. interesting! Do you still have that camera? Let me know if you plan to sell its lenses
BTW, I had trouble believing that it's actually you in that old shot :)

@samurai
That is actually you? Damn, it took me a while to make that out! Thank god you are not smiling, because if you did, I would never have been able to make out its you!
@clevermax
The crowd is awesome in that shot! It makes the shot.
Golden gate overcast.

TG.

Thanks!
No Pawan, it is not lens vignetting and that image had very minimal PP done. It's the natural light variations at play.
Your shot is beautifully composed. I only wish those leaves in the foreground at the bottom right wasn't there.
My closeup attempt
A 539 second exposure

Really out of the world !
I just thought of sharing one funny shot from my weekend. I was covering a First Holy communion of my friend's daughter today, one of her cousins (also my school mate's daughter) wanted to try her white outfits, but on her own black dress, so here I got a contrast of both Black and White ! (for non-Christians: First Holy Communion is an event where a child receives Jesus for the first time in the form a bread. Official dress is full white and its that way throughout the world). This could probably be the only image in the whole world in this color combination !!!

Its 50mm f/6.7, ISO-400, 1/60 sec, bounce flash from ceiling with a SB-600
TG, shaju...nice ones! Tsk those long exposures of yours always catch my eye.
Here's one heavily PP'd
Thank you shaju! Nice portrait there.
As I captioned it elsewhere, One of the "I-always-wanted-to-click-this" picture. Taken yesterday.
@tsk: may be you could have captured the second one at a more wider focal length?
Guys, this might be one of the very last images that I ever post in this forum. If I don't get another chance to write here, I just want to say that I was lucky enough to learn a great deal about photography from all the gurus and experts here, and I made few very good friends also from here. I really enjoyed (and will enjoy) all the wonderful images coming up in this thread. Thank you!

Well, I wasn't, I was 24.:)
The mysore palace has always awed me, and specially when a 100 thousand bulbs light up the palace. It brings up a swell of emotion and awe in me. This is my second attempt at capturing this marvel.
cheers!
Narmada River at bharuch shot during our Kerala road trip.

Your composition is super.
Whats the reason for the last image ?????
Thanks!
Actually I was at 10mm already, so no chance of going wider :D
