re: Mobile operators in India | Plans, pricing & services

Effective from 19/04/2017, Airtel has extended the following benefits on recharge of ₹399.

* Unlimited local and STD calls free for 70 days.
* Free 1GB data/day (500 MB+500 MB) for 70 days.

At less than ₹200/month, this is indeed an excellent option.

Idea Nirvana Plans

Has anyone availed the Idea Nirvana plans? The website sites a charge for video calls (2p/s); not sure if this really means that any video calls done (whatsapp/Facetime) will be charged?

Anyone with the nirvana plan - can you please confirm?

I have already signed up for DND service but it made no real difference. Pls help!!
Tell me about it. My number is also a recycled number that used to belong to a lawyer somewhere in Maharashtra. I used to get calls even in the middle of the night for things like Bail applications.
After a couple of years it stopped. I guess you just have to tolerate it for a while. Eventually it will stop.

re: Mobile operators in India | Plans, pricing & services

I have a problem with Idea cellular.
My primary number was taken in Hyderabad when I stayed there.
Right now, I am in Bangalore. They have disconnected my number because I did not submit Aadhar (I dont know under what rule). Calls to customer care and visit to customer centre points to suggestions to go to Hyderabad and submit my Aadhar with local references.
And they keep mentioning some local references.
They are not ready to port my number to Karnataka circle too.

I have sent an email to the appellate email id I got from TRAI website, but no reply yet.
Is there anything I can do to keep the mobile number?

Any advice is appreciated.

Within a day of complaining to Airtel about poor coverage at a particular area in Bengaluru, they fixed it. Chap came home did a survey, ran a test on his phone and all is well today.

re: Mobile operators in India | Plans, pricing & services

Airtel is offering interesting contract based plans on many smartphones right now. I'm considering switching over but I'm apprehensive about getting locked in to a particular network. I've heard some complaints about the network and maybe their service won't be great towards a customer who they know will not leave their product for at least 2 years.

Does anyone have any experiences regarding this?

Would suggest not to go ahead with it. With Prepaid and postpaid customers without any commitment, their service is not something to applaud.

Gone are the days when Airtel was the best in terms of network coverage and quality. After Jio's entry price war is showing the effect on the quality of the service.

I am on Vodafone RED 399 plan, which is now at par with Nirvana Plans, post Voda-Idea Merger.

They don't charge for Whatsapp/Facetime calls.

They only charge Rs 5/sms for the first time whatsapp or icloud registration,as those sms's go to an International number .

I switched back to Vodafone and realised that the number of sms's from VM/VD/TD and the likes have increased. All real estate related and I assume that my Home Loan related people in the chain, must have sold my data.

For the last 7 days, for every sms I receive, I file a complaint here: https://discover.vodafone.in/dnd-complaints without fail. I have around 36 open tickets and I won't stop. It is tedious ( as iPhone don't have the TRAI's DND complaint app) but it was high time to do something.
And my number is not new. It has been with me for the last 8 years (it was a VIP number churned and allotted to me ).

On a separate note, recently, my number was linked to a new Axis Bank account opened by someone.I am not even an Axis Ban Customer. Right from chequebook dispatch to cheque clearance details were being sent to me every day. Tweeted to Axis Bank who sent me a link to inform the details and it was delinked within 15 days.

Whenever you switch operators your DND registration will get deactivated and you'll have to activate it again. Just to verify check your DND status in the portal.

Yes for sure. That was the first thing I turned on, being an experienced 'serial porter'.

Mobile operators in India - Plans pricing and services

Since I work for Reliance Retail, all our corporate airtel numbers were ported to JIO about a year ago. Initially it was a nightmare. Calls did not go through and many people could not reach me.

But all that changed in 3-4 months and then network connectivity was excellent. So much so that I ported my personal connection to JIO. And now my wife, parents are all on JIO. It is not perfect, but there are no consistent call drops like airtel. And data connectivity is very good. With airtel, I could not speak more than 7-10 minutes without a call drop. But JIO is far better in that regard.

Now the only connection I have of airtel is of broadband, which too has frequent outages. I'm hoping for a day when I can get rid of that too as well as the super expensive Tata Sky and replace them both with Jio giga fiber.
