The D90 is a good buy,esp with its HD recording, saves you the cost of going in for a Handycam...
I am a fan of Canon, but lately the Nikon bodies have been far better than the Canon ones...
its simple Nikon scores over Canon when it comes to body, and Canon scores over Nikon when it comes to Lenses.

In fact their prices shot up crazily couple of months back, the grey market price of a L 100-400mm was 63K, it shot up to 90K-1L. Same with bodies, my friend sold his 40D for a price higher than what he had bought it!

Guys, need some help in deciding on a dilemma. On a recent trip, my camera ( Nikon D40X with stock 18mm-55mm lens) got exposed to rain and my zoom function has gone kaput.

When i am in automatic zoom mode it takes pictures on certain zooms like at 18mm then 30mm and sometimes at 55mm. But, i am able to take pictures in manual zoom mode and not every picture is coming out good.

Yesterday, been to Nikon center and he told me some component has to be repaired and cost of it will be approximately Rs.2500 + 1800 service charges and for that cost he said you can buy a brand new 18mm-55mm non-VR lens. Any idea what would be this lens price?

Actually, i appreciated this guy at the service center his feedback was honest, logical and he didnt seem to force himself on you.
Also, since now i am in this situation i am contemplating of upgrading my lens to a telephoto.

Can someone suggest good options/brands/approx costing/where to buy for following

18mm-135mm
18mm-200mm
which are other telephoto ranges

My budget is 10K-12K maximum. TIA !!!

Went to Jumbo store for a Tripod, saw they receiving the stock for Canon 500D, asked the price, they said 51K, I said too costly, they said they can give more discount, I asked how much, they said 4K-5K,

I guess they can offer, 500D for 46K, how does this deal looks?

Guys i have a 1000D Kit, i plan to give this to my dad. I also have a Film SLR from Nikon F80S, along with two lenses. Now i am thinking of getting a D5000 from nikon. But there are reports of some firmware issues with this camera. What is the grey market price for D5000 with and without kit lens?

D5000 body for 31-32K (the kit lens comes for 4.5 to 5K)
Lens - 18~105 VR for 17K

Regarding the issues with D5000 read all about it here - D5000 Service Advisory

Save this link on your GPRS enabled mobile and when you go to buy the D5000, check the serial number online and get peace of mind - https://www.nikondealernet.com/saD5000/

Hi All,

There is a new Canon 7D EOS camera released and by seeing the specification from canon and other review, it is a camera for VFM.

The link to this Camera Specification is Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR

Thank You

I bought myself a Canon 500D + 18-55 IS Lens + 1 year Store warranty + Back Pack + 4 GB Card in Chennai for Rs.38,000. I was quoted 45,000 for Canon warranty!

Thats an awesome and affordable deal, what does Store Warranty means, support by Store/Dealer instead Canon?

Similar to what Canon provides, The dealer (the store from where i bought the camera) will take care of the Camera + Lens for 12 months. So what ever happens to the camera / Lens in one year will be repaired / serviced free of cost.

Also, The owner of that camera store is a close friend of mine, so i had no second thoughts in opting for a Store warranty in place of Canon warranty. I might miss the Canon warranty / freebies from canon / Edge Program - But i guess saving 7 - 10k for a Canon warranty beats up those freebies

What exactly is Canon warranty? What all they cover? Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question.
