Yesterday, my son bought Canon EFS 55-250 mm IS f/4-5.6 IS lens from Jayesh Mehta of Foto Circle, Ananda Rao Circle, by paying Rs 10,500 in cash [with bill & warranty] as against MRP of Rs 12,275 [imported from Canon Singapore Pte Ltd., in June 2010].

Singapore/Thailand etc sells Malayasia stock.

Canon lenses sold in India would come via S'pore distribution channels. Someone has mentioned here before that Indian prices for 55-250is are more competitive than S.E Asia rates.

I paid 11500/- in March 09 in KL with 1 year intl warranty.

You are right. On the box, 'Canon Inc., Made in Malaysia' were printed, but the sticker says, 'imported from Singapore'!

Hongkong is where you get world's cheapest prices for Canon.
Go ahead and grab this.
How much is the final cost along with 5000 hkd intl warranty?
Think about if you really need to spend that extra 5000 hkd.

I bought this lens in Sept 2009 for 13,500 from J J Mehta in Mumbai. I think the rates in Thailand are cheaper than India. The same lens in Bangkok about a year ago was selling for 7000 Baht (INR 10,500) with bill.

If you can pick up from their stores directly, I find them very good to deal with. I got my 70-200 f/2.8 from their outlet near casino theater (Meeran Sahib street), and saved 4k from Bangalore price. Meet Senthil or Sathya, you will get a quote lower than their website listing.
