The Canon is a good camera. The Tamron is an okay lens. I do not know about the prices though and whether you are getting a good deal. What you make of the combination will depend on you.

Makes sense to me too. Is there a 55-300? Yes there is one. That would make more sense. Also make sure you have a prime.

The difference in quality is quite perceptible.
It is not same as IS ( Image Stablization) Sigma equivalent is OS.
USM is ultrasonic motor and Sigma has something called HSM

There is a new Sigma 70-300 OS version as well in case you are interested

1:5X macro is not macro in any sense should be called close focus.
Any way looks like Minolta MD mount , Which camera you have ?

First of all thank you for the link ! So you want me to buy a lens with HSM and OS and APO?

Well I don't normally recommend a UV filter at all but if someone has to purchase UV then it should be multicoated thats why I said Hoya HMC UV(N)

Are you sure at 250Rs you got Hoya HMC UV(N) and not Hoya Green UV(N) ? The price is too good to believe for an HMC filter.

Hoya green or Hoya with out any HMC appended is an un-coated filter.

Re: The DSLR Thread

I am thinking to sell my kit lens nikon 18-105 and buy a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 for my Nikon D90.

What you suggest guy, should I go for that or any other options.

Yes, it is a HMC UV(N). I was skeptic about buying it first, worrying that it was a fake, but then I confirmed that it was genuine from multiple sources and then took the plunge.

Soon after I bought this, I went to another store, he had the HMC UV(C) only in stock, that too only for 52mm. It costs 900 INR with B&W.

The one I bought is apparently a gray market one, as it did not have the 'imported and sold' label at the back, the seller also told the same, and that the same was the reason for the price.

Here is a pic. I bought the exact same one.

this is the one i'm using

got it 5-6yrs back from Singapore along with the BP-200 for my EOS 300. i think this is a uncoated UV filter.

btw, do you know where in Bangalore i can get Hoya filters? i've been looking around various shops, but every time i end up returning empty handed. i need one 52mm and two 58mm filters.

same goes for the Canon ET-60 lens hood. wanted to get one before i head for the Aero India show tomorrow, but haven't found it yet :(

Try at G.G. Welling at M.G. Road , I saw Hoya HMC UV there about one month back , this is probably oldest photographic store in India since 1903.

About Canon ET-60 with what lens you want to use it ? I have this hood.
With 18-55mm it will cause slight vignetting at 18-20mm it is ironical that Canon specifies it for 18-55mm and it is smallest canon hood.

BTW : Public Entry for Aero-India is on 12-13 right ?

ET-60 is recommended for the 70-300mm and the 55-250mm. i've the latter (the one i had during the meet). i think the one to use with 18-55mm is the EW-60C.

i'm going for the air show tomorrow (first time in 12yrs) and i really hope what you said about the Aero India being open to public on on weekend is not true! there is so much confusion about the show! i took leave from office

hey, do you know if they will allow camera bags inside the venue?

I would say, "Keep both". I guess you are not able to go wide enough. What is the cost of the Tamron?

That is fast. What about all the 550D users? I can see that there is now an EOS1100D as well.

It is a very god camera. I was seriously considering it before deciding on Sony A500. The option using my existing minolta lens tilted the decision.

Quite a few reviews are available in the net.
