Need help regarding Sony PS2 (Please help)

I have been considering buying a sony ps2 in about 1 months time.... but i have a few doubts. Should i buy the ps2 barely a year before the ps3 releases? i had a bad experience when i bought the ps1 just months before the ps2 released....the games just stopped releasing. My doubts are:-
1. Once the ps3 releases will the production of ps2 games stop?
2. Is the ps2 worth buyin at this stage?
3. Where and in how much will i get the cheapest offer in Mumbai?

Please advise.

There are enough games in the PS2 library to keep the average gamer busy. The only thing is when the PS3 is released the PS2 may fall in price. This has happened to the Xbox in the UK. You can pick a brand new one up for less than the equivalent of RS4000, whereas before the Xbox 360 was released it was selling for about RS7000.

Go for Xbox. Anyday better than PS2 in terms of graphics realism. Enough games available too (except Gran Tourismo)

1. Probably yes, since thats the way things go. But there are 100s of games already available. But ya you'l miss the newer ones.

2. Yes! Unless you can afford the PS3 when it launches. 1 year to launch + 1 year for prices to stabilize here in India.

3. Lamington Road. Guess around 7-8k

Get a modded Xbox, bang on Xbox Media Centre, a few emulators etc and you have the ultimate home gaming machine combined with a decent media centre.

The PS2 is anyday a better buy than XBOX but if you are considering then go ahead and buy it as it has a huge huge library of games which are endless also there has been a huge huge price drop of the ps2 in the US so in India also it should be very less i think it will be cheaper to buy in Alfa and just for the information about the PS3 it is slated for launch in november and will be here by december max and it will be very veryu costly as i have preordered it from a local guy in mumbai who has told me to atleast keep 40ks aside.

The ps3 is releasing at 19,500 worldwide in november, i dont know what the hell your local guy is talking about. I suggest that u dont buy the ps3 because will all be on blue ray discs, so it waill take at least 2 years for pirated discs to release, that is if they do. So, my choices are ps2 and XBOX. The Xbox games are still releasing even after the release of the xbox360. So that gives the xbox a boost. But the ps2 is available at a minimum price of 8,500 while the xbox is for 11,000. Im in a fix. Please suggest.

well........dude i think that right nowyou can buy the ps2...the thing with ps3 is that they are trying to introduce blue-ray technology in their console....
this stll si gonna take some time to release...
Sony has estimated that they are gonna release ps3 by nov end.....but by the time they come in india it will be around march...
Also that time the cost of the console in gonna be very high....jus like ps2 came up....wont be worth it that time...will come at 30k around.....
Also durig that time the moded version of the ps3 will take time to come and orginal cd's will not be worth....I suggest that go for the ps2 right now....it will stay whit you in terms of gaming for about the next 1.5 hrs min....alteast in india it will....

I dont think so. For sheer versatility the Xbox totally destroys the PS2. Once you have it modded it is a dream. You can stream multimedia from your PC to it. You can upscale its output to HD standard. Xbox Media Centre alone is a killer app. Install a bigger hard drive, store your music collection on it, watch xvids, divx, play nintendo 64, snes, nes, mega drive, games on it. It may be an ugly looking console but it has a lot of tricks up its sleave. Even on the games front there are plenty of titles.

Cross posting from another forum. This might just clear a bit regarding the pricing.

System to come in two configurations, will cost up to $599.
by Jeff Haynes

May 8, 2006 - In a last minute bombshell, Kaz Hirai announced the specific date and details of the PS3 launch. The PS3 will be arranged in two separate system configurations: a 20 and a 60 gigabyte hard drive system. What's more, Japan will see the PS3 first on November 11th, at a price for 59,800 yen for the 20 gigabyte system setup. The 60 gigabyte system will be open ended and set by retailers. North America, Europe and Australasia will see the system six days later on November 17th. The price? $499 dollars or 499 Euros for the 20 gig version, and $599 dollars or 599 Euros for the 60 gig version. In Canadian dollars, that will come to approximately $549 dollars for the 20 gig and $659 dollars for the 60 gig version.

Hirai also announced that Sony will try to get a grand total of six million units shipped by March 31, 2007, which is Sony's fiscal date: 2 million PS3s will be available during the initial launch window, another 2 million will be shipped before the end of 2006, and finally another 2 before March 31st.
PS3 : Only an object of desire for me now! Atleast for 2 years till the price drops.

Cheers!!!

Yes but in 2 years MS will be telling us about the next Xbox (720 ?) and then we will be having the same type of chat and asking if we should buy the ps3, xbox360 or wait 2 years for the new ps4 or xbox ??? to drop in price.

I bet the gaming majors have already got the next consoles designed and ready to roll.
