I know I wont get warranty. But the 250GB is about 15k in HK compared to 22.5 in India which is a savings of almost 33%. Therefore i am tempted

I use it primarily as a blu ray player with the occasional game. The quality of playback is better than any other blu ray player I've seen till date barring the Oppo BD83 which is a shade better. Even DVD playback is top class as the software upscaler that runs on the emotion engine does a very very good job of cadence detection and de-interlacing. The cheaper bluray players are rubbish compared to the PS3. Check ultimateavmag or hometheatermag reviews of the PS3 slim. It supports RGB output over HDMI without color space compression. Even supports 24p. The default settings need changing though. My display is a Philips 9703.

You'd need to buy the bluetooth remote though - its a pain to navigate using the controller.

PS: Do not buy the old PS3. Make sure you get the slim as the older one can't bitstream high def audio over HDMI.

Good news for PS3 Fans . They have introduced the Motion device available Sept 2010.
So end of the road for Nintendo wii I guess, unless they do something quick to come up with an HD console.

This one has a camera as well, so its possible for you to be In the game in some cases. (check the videos )

Amazon.com: PlayStation Move Console Bundle: Video Games

Microsoft too better hurry up with Kinect/Project Natal if you want to remain in the game.

Kinect is going to be available later in October I guess. Sony has got the right time to launch PS3 Move it seems.
with Move, you will still be using a pointing deice (sometimes two at a time). However, with Xbox 360 you dont have to.
I want to see who has got the better traction / precession control among the two. Its going to be interesting.

Bought PS3 Slim 120GB from Sony world last week. No free games bundled. Right now playing Killzone 2 which i got from my BIL. Its a pretty decent game. Really love the dualshock and motion capture in the ps3 controller. Throws you right in the middle of the action!
Really happy with the purchase.

Rs.19,990 from Sony World. No accessories added till now. Planning to buy the remote for blu-ray playback. Is it worth it guys??
Also how much time does it take to update the PS3 software directly through the player using the internet? is it safe to do it?

^It is always safer to download the updates to your pendrive and update the PS3, rather than updating it directly from the net. Follow the instructions on creating the folder in the pendrive scrupulously and also ensure that your PS3 is connected to a UPS so that any power interruptions during the update process do not spoil the broth and brick your PS3. With the quality of power and internet connection in India this will be the safest route to take.

Also go through the forum posts here and then decide whether you want to update at all. I haven't after 3.15 and keeping my fingers crossed till the clouds settle and the all clear siren blows but then I use my PS3 Slim only to play BDs and not games.

Good luck.

Yes, it is mandatory that you update to gain access to PSN.

Since I am using my PS3 only as a BD Player, I have not updated considering the hue and cry raised since 3.21.

Every update after 3.15 seems to have bricked many PS3s or brought other problems - though many have reported theirs is fine. Overall, it is a confusing picture.

I shall prefer to update only when a latest update does not report problems by other users. (Their recent 3.41 update seems to have created problems for new PS3 Slims too.)

You may still update it, and take a chance (smug in the fact that you are still under warranty ) if you are so keen to enter PSN.

Can you please list out what type of problems I might face if I update my PS3? Right now, I'm using it solely as a BD/DVD player and am interested to get into the online gaming stuff shortly.

PS3: to update or not

Going through the PS3 forum I had already referenced before, I was quite impressed with a newbie's post today, which truly reflects the mind of non-updaters like me.

"And yes, count me in the list of people not willing to update their systems until the reports of systems breaking from the update decreases. If I wanted a PS3 missing features, I would have bought a known broken one from Ebay. When the next update comes out and hasn't created mass reports of people with screwed up systems, then I'll apply the update.

I can live without the online features that Sony is denying those without the updated firmware. Having other features of my not-even 2 month old PS3 being affected due to a questionable update is unacceptable."
