Only Apple and Fitbit have been cleared by FDA. Fitbit got it in Apr 2022 and is rolling out to US customers. In India, I would strongly stick to the Apple watch, or buy the Fitbit's Sense

Such features need the top of the line hardware for such features to be perfectly usable. As an ex-Charge 2 user, I am mega skeptical if Charge 5's ECG will be as amazing as Apple Watch.

My only reason for not getting an apple watch for my mother is the charging time and her lack of dexterity at her age

What cheapest watch with 5+ day battery will do this?

Thanks in advance
An update - this is the WearOS 2/3 which does it. Every other device basically needs constant sync with the phone's and will get pushed through the watch notification app. WearOS syncs over WiFi.

The cheapest one for that in India is the Galaxy Watch. I'm sticking to draining my 1+ and Garmin watch battery in that case, till either lasts

In any of the other cheap bands, is there a time reminder function: beep every 10 min - its 9:10, its 9:20 etc
Helps for folks like me who hyperfocus and then lose track of time.

apart from the typical features (health, face change, etc), should have a good battery life (5+ days min), preferably with call / msg notifications (if not responding it).

Few places I read that when whole day connected to phone over bluetooth (to sync notification / control music etc) , the watch battery last hardly a day - that would be bad !

I briefly glanced few models of Boat (xtend), Noise (colorfit pro3) - but couldn't decide yet.

thanks in advance.
Go for Amazfit. The Bip U Pro should fit your budget and requirements. My nephew has the Bip U (minus the pro) and his watch has all the features and battery life that you mentioned. He got that one for like 2500 bucks.

The Pro model additionally has GPS (for 1000ish more) so it doesn't need the phone GPS to capture workout data.

Tracking is no nonsense and the app works great (using it since past 9-10 months with another Amazfit watch).

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Hello BHPians, I was also bitten by the fitness and trekking bug, which led me to Garmin's Instinct 2 Solar edition.
I got it from Singapore DuFry.

However, I am not happy with the location performance of this watch.
I hike daily on a hill near my home in Baner, Pune.
My routine is to detect the location and when I hear the beep that the location is detected, then I choose the "Hike" mode in the smartwatch.

Even after detecting this location, it still gives me inaccurate tracking of the route map which is annoying.
I paid SGD650 for this watch and not really satisfied with the location tracking performance.

I tried the GPS+GLONASS, then GPS+GALLILEO options but still the tracking leaves much to desire.

Anyway to trouble shoot this or any setting which I am missing?

missed to update earlier : Few weeks back I had purchased Noise Colorfit Pro-3 Assist model for Rs.2799 from Amazon.in, and kiddo is loving it. Back then I was aware of Colorfit Pro-4 series was around the corner, but we didnt wait for it, which incidentally costs a bit more.

Are you sure you have updated India maps on your match? As I understand Garmin does not support its own topography maps in India on watches. Most Garmin folks use open street maps (this is what I heard from Garmin support).

Ideally I won't use a watch for hiking trails unless its the last option. I know the watches provide that option (Just my opinion on this topic). My instrument would be the Montana series devices or something like that. But then the same problem applies. No topography maps for India !

How long does it take to get the initial location lock ? I use the vivoactive 4 and I ran into a similar issue for a while, but I use it just for walk / run. After several attempts, I removed my connect app and reinstalled it and that fixed the issue. Also, I read that as a best practice it's good to wait for a couple of minutes after it gets the initial lock.

Thanks for this valuable suggestion. I bought the Watch 4 for around 11K and side loaded ECG and BP monitoring apps. This is all I needed.

It turns out that my mother wears it only during measurement and my sister wears it to her office.

If it's the Apple Watch you're asking about, then its been available in India from 2019.

Galaxy Watch 4 supports ECG and BP monitoring. But these two features are exclusive only to Samsung phones. However there is a workaround for non-Samsung phone users.

Haven't tried personally though.

I had assumed that this was about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.

I have the Galaxy watch 4 with the S22 Ultra.

I can confirm neither feature is enabled on my watch. Do I need to jailbreak the phone or watch or is there a toggle I have not seen?

Both features are region specific and not available in India by default. Though there are multiple videos on YouTube which show how to bypass the regional restriction and enable them. Do check out.

No jailbreak or rooting is needed. Follow the instructions given in xda-developers link. This is a straightforward process which requires debugging enabled on watch and side load modded apps on both the phone and the watch. Anyone ever worked a little bit on the command line should be able to do it. Difficulty wise, it is only slightly harder than installing network printer.

Actually these features are there from Galaxy Watch 2 and in India you need to bypass the region restrictions to continue using them. You can enable:
  1. ECG Measurement
  2. BP Monitoring
  3. Samsung Pay (NFC Payment Only)
Using Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy Watch Active 2
