Thanks, ampere and sridhu.

I've been using endomondo for many years now and started using googlefit recently since endomondo is out of service. So, was checking to see if I can get all my data into one place. Not a critical requirement, though.

Looks like I've the details I was looking for. Appreciate folks.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Can someone help me choose between Garmin Venu SQ (not the music edition) and Garmin Venu 2S ?. I know these are totally different segments. I believe in buying the best. Hence considered Venu 2s. But I feel 36.5k for a smartwatch is a bit too much. Venu SQ costs 14.5k. Is Venu SQ good enough?.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Samsung is selling the Galaxy Watch 4 (44mm BT version) at a discounted price of 14999 plus another 1500 off if you pay via credit card. I think its a good deal.

I just got myself one and so far happy with it except for the abysmal battery life which hardly gets you through 24-30 hours in one full charge. But I guess low battery life is with every other watch having Wear OS.

Just a heads up guys, the website says that this deal is applicable only till midnight.

Does the battery life improve with Always-On Display turned off and Heart Rate monitoring set to manual? I am in a fix regarding this since the past few days ever since this deal was announced. Sounds like a great deal since this is the best Wear-OS watch, going by reviews. I almost ordered one, but then backed out since I am not sure if I can live with this kind of battery life. Already struggling with poor battery life on my smartphone (S20FE), don't really want to add another device to the charge-it-daily list.

I bought a Venu Sq about 2 months back. Seems pretty nice.

What's your exact usecase? Maybe that'll help give some proper suggestions. For a smart watch with GPS(needed for outdoor runs), Venu Sq is pretty good.

I have been using the watch for 2 days only and can observe that battery drain is fast, but it can get you through 24 hours at least and going by the user reviews on reddit, you can expect max of 36 hours and not beyond that. So be prepared to charge the battery once every 36 hours at least .

I have AOD turned off only and later set the heart rate monitoring to manual but didn't observe any substantial battery gains, only marginal.

From various reddit posts, I have learnt that the battery learns from your usage in the initial 7 days and later it adapts. So I will be observing that and posting my review after 10 days or so.

One thing that I disliked is that the battery charging is slow as well. It takes 1h35m to charge from 20% to 100%. Should have been faster.

Still at 14999 it makes good VFM and even though Series 5 is just round the corner, but I doubt they will price it less than 28-30k.

Good thing is that the Samsung website is still showing this discount.

Venu SQ Music has almost everything that Venu 2 has for normal fitness+ smart watch usage. No golfing & onscreen guides are the only differences, IIRC.

Venu SQ without Music does not have, obviously, music. Both are also 3+ years old technology wise.

If price matters, then SQ is perfectly good. (If you want a round watch, check forerunner 45. No touch)

In fact, If price matters check the Samsung watch 4, particularly of you use a Samsung phone. The deal is excellent.

If fitness matters, Venu 2 or Vivo active 4 (old tech again) are the best

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Thanks a lot. I havent considered Samsung because they say its more of a smartwatch than a fitness watch. Vivo active 4 etc are 2019 models. So I have shortlisted venu sq and venu 2s. venu sq is not 3 years old though. (Lunched on the 23rd sept 2020). I know venu sq screen is lcd. But its not bad at all. The main question, is venu 2s way better than venu sq to justify that price.

shifu and others who own an sq, I read that Garmin has compromised on the build and materials on the sq to make it price competitive (almost half of venu). How do you folks find it after using for a long duration? I want to use it for my long runs and I tend to sweat a lot. Would prolonged exposure to sweat affect the body/strap? What kind of cleaning regime you folks follow?
Does it make sense to get a cover/watch face protector?

Regards
Rex

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

I have previously used Huawei and MI smart bands and then moved to Samsung smarwatches. Used galaxy46mm lte, active 2 and Watch 4. Galaxy 46mm has excellent 3-4 day battery life depending on the usage. Active 2 lasts normally for 48 hrs. Watch 4 on aeroplane mode with always on display turned off, can last for 48 hrs. Other than advantage of having wear os, most of the fuctions are similar between Watch 4 bluetooth and Active 2 bluetooth versions. One drawback of wear os is , those watches with it are incompatible with apple phones and android devices not having playstore support.
Overall, my favorite is Galaxy 46mm LTE- it has excellent battery life among smartwatches and robust construction. Galaxy watch is predecessor of Watch 3 and active 2 variants. So, the sensors are of earlier version. They are accurate but lack a few feature like advanced run metrics ( assymetry, flight time etc.,.)
One advantage going with Samsung smartwatches is that, step count can be setup to be in sync between watch and phone always. So, if you walk with your phone, step count is updated later on watch also when both sync in. If you walk with both together, duplicate data is avoided as well. So, its a win-win scenario. Most other watches I observed doesn't sync data from phone to watch in the reverse way.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

I have been planning to give Fitbit Charge 5 to my mom. Finally there is a bit of offer on Amazon but reviews aren't that good.

Has anyone used Charge 5?

For synch and export, I have synched to strava, and I can see the activities getting imported there without any issues. In addition, each exercise can be exported as a tcx file from the fitbit app itself.

Heart rate recording is really off during heavy activities. I use a wahoo chest strap HRM for cycling, and the readings do not match at all. Wahoo is a lot more accurate here.

SpO2 reading happens only during sleep. Not sure how useful this is. I have switched it off and enjoy a little bit more of the battery life. Battery lasts between 2 and 3 days of continuous usage.

I suggest you get a chest strap HRM to track your runs.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

I need a smart watch to untether me from my phone. Just calendar to be synced over wifi and me notified Everytime.

No need for a device for exercise - I have the Garmin. But it syncs calendars.

What cheapest watch with 5+ day battery will do this?

Thanks in advance

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Please assist :

looking for a smart watch for my teen daughter, budget around 3-4K.
apart from the typical features (health, face change, etc), should have a good battery life (5+ days min), preferably with call / msg notifications (if not responding it).

Few places I read that when whole day connected to phone over bluetooth (to sync notification / control music etc) , the watch battery last hardly a day - that would be bad !

I briefly glanced few models of Boat (xtend), Noise (colorfit pro3) - but couldn't decide yet.

thanks in advance.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Need a smart watch/band for my mother. Given her health concerns, I have been looking with ECG models as I assumed that they will detect Afib and send a notification.

Are there any options in 10-20 K. Please note that I need Afib notifications as mandatory. That's the main purpose of giving this gadget to her.
