Since it happened while you were on a run, I guess it was some glitch due to which the watch restarted. I guess a firmware update won't be triggered when you are in some activity.

EDIT: Watch getting stuck during activity has happened to me once with the Forerunner 245. But I didn't get the blue triangle, it was just stuck on the activity screen and not responding to any inputs. But I was able to restart the watch.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

I procured Fitbit Sense last week.

Good vibes. Smooth changeover from my Fitbit Surge.

Let us see how it goes.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Need some guidance folks.

A relative of mine is in the US and her friend is coming over to india, so she was asking us if we need any Apple products. So I was thinking about that Apple Watch 7 series cellular-44mm. It surely seems at least 10-12k cheaper than India, so it’s worth getting it from there.

However, i wanted to know a bit more about the e-sim that goes in the Apple Watch. I have the iPhone 12 and I already use an e-sim for my personal number while my office number is the physical sim. So, in the Apple Watch, can I use the e-sim of my personal number which is already being used in the iPhone 12, I mean in parallel?
I don’t want to get another number just for the watch, since it would be quite unnecessary.

The only reason for me to think of cellular is because when I go for my weekend runs I do not carry my phone, so easier for the family to reach me. Else there is absolutely no need for the cellular version considering that i always carry the phone everywhere else.

I’m also due to travel to Dubai next week, would the cost be as low as whats in the US? If so I would rather get it myself than ask some one to bring it from the US.

Now, I am looking to replace the Honor magic watch with a decent, premium smartwatch, but the Apple watch is not suiting me, 1. rectangular shape, 2. terrible battery, 3. unjustified cost

Any ideas from fellow BHP-ians?
Hi,
I've been using a Fitbit Versa since 2019 with iPhone 7 and now with iPhone12.
Works very well, to include swimming, cycling, running and walking.
Last year (Nov 2020) bought a Fitbit Sense for my father.

How is Sense? Have heard mixed reviews till now.

I am on Versa 2 and hoping that Fitbit comes up with Sense 2 this year with all the reported niggles resolved.

Fitbit Sense:
1. I feel it doesnt record sleep as well as the Versa does.
2. It is supposed to have a BP monitor and an SPO2 monitor, which doesnt work or is too complicated to configure.
3. It is supposed to come with Premium free, but keeps asking for credit card information which makes the "free" offer questionable.
4. It goes rogue about once a month. Needs a reboot, which is a time consuming process.
5. Till it is rebooted, it does not log any data, and that is a big miss for fitness freaks.
6. I dont vote that anyone purchase a Fitbit Sense till they solve the niggles.
Good luck

I don't think it is possible to get separate sim/connection for Apple watch in India. It's usually a parallel connection to your existing number which is already used in the iPhone. Basically both will have same number.

BTW, series 7 means either 41 or 45mm. There's no 44mm in series 7.

Yes, that’s what I meant to ask, whether the same esim works in parallel in the phone and the watch. Got that, thanks.
And my bad, I mentioned 40 or 44mm, I understand it’s actually 41 or 45mm.

Re: The Fitness Band / Smartwatch Thread

Was trying to pick a fitness tracker and have shortlisted Fitbit Versa 3 and Garmin Venu Sq.

Anybody out there using either of these or have done a comparative study? There are a lot of material on the net, but wanted some feedback from a known circle.

Keen on having something that can track following accurately and has WiFi connectivity
- running (and able to get that data mapped/exported to standard fitness app)
- heart rate
- spO2

Regards
Rex

I have used Versa 2 and Garmin Venu Sq and Vivoactive 4

If you want a fitness tracker, Garmin is hands down the best.

If you primarily want a smart watch Versa might be better.

I personally preferred the Garmins for their battery, GPS accuracy and better integration with MyFitnessPal.

Versa was better for sleep tracking

For your use, Garmin might be better. If you can buy from the US, consider a Venu 2 or Vivoactive 4

Great. Thanks for the note, sridhu.

Versa 3 (2 as well) appears more refined, have ease of use interfaces and is more wellness focused. But, have been hearing about them breaking randomly, not accurately recording the body vitals, and not having enough support to get them back on track. Is that true from your experience?

As you rightly mentioned, my need is an accurate tracking of my runs and vitals during the run or otherwise. Not keen on any bells and whistles.

Can I sync/export Venu SQ data with/to common apps like runkeeper/googlefit/endomondo, etc. I assume Venu sq records the workout independently (not having a phone in proximity).

Venu sq (non-music) has WiFi?

Regards
Rex

Garmin does export to Google Fit & Map My Run apps. I do not personally use Endomondo or Runkeeper and hence cannot comment.

Yes. The tracker does not need a phone for the workout. It needs it for connectivity & audio - basically no eSim

Not sure if the non-music version has WiFi. My wife has the music version and it does. WiFi is slow any way.

Do you have need to export to Google Fit? Actually my suggestion would to stay within Garmin and push every thing into Garmin rather than Google. It’s much better in my opinion. I have been with it for last 5-6 years and has worked well.

It has seamless syncs to all the popular platforms like Strava, MyFitnessPal etc.

Not sure about your primary need. Hence I can’t comment. But if you ask me, definitely staying within Garmin is much easier. Also it is seem-less with IOS and Android.

There is no particular need to 'export' to GoogleFit. You do a one time connect and it syncs seamlessly after that.

My friends & I connect on Map My Run from across multiple platforms (Apple, FitBit, Garmin & Samsung Galaxy Watch). THis is enough for me.

Strava did not work for me - think it is focused on cycling. (Not sure)
