What did you do in the end? Did you take up Sony's offer?
I was told that the offer to get new TV instead of the display at 35K is valid till 05 years. Its juts 3.5 years now and I am thinking to wait till those lines bother me. Those lines are still at the bottom and hasn't worsened yet. Now that you have rightly pointed out similar problem in the same model, I think Sony service center person lied that it was water problem caused by me. I think its a failed product and Sony is trying to compensate us by giving option to buy a TV instead of replacing display. The salesman did mention me that Sony may give this option as many of the customers are being offered the same. He also confirmed that there are many problems with Sony these days and its not the same brand anymore.

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

Hello members,
I recently picked up a Sony Bravia 9 85” TV. The TV is fabulous & would recommend to anybody who’s looking for a TV in that price range. Just wanted an input from the members, has anyone used Sony theatre bar? Just wanted to take an informed decision.

Unfortunately, not for good reasons but I am in dire need of suggestions and it is my firm belief that this will act as a reference to many other people.
With regards to the above mentioned, Samsung has offered me a repair at 40% discount. They are still very firm on no replacement.

26k is the repair cost, will have to pay 15k. Warranty and everything will continue. Reminder: it's been 6 months already since this TV was delivered.

Should I accept this offer? Or should I continue filing the consumer case?

P.S. I am currently a student.

Shubham

Choose to repair it and move on, consider it as a one time tax paid for opening the box without the technician. Hopefully you learn from this for your future purchases

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

Does anyone have any experience with Hisense TV's? Particularly the U6N PRO mini LED? Looks really tempting at 49k for the 55inch model, with a 3 year warranty.

I have a Hisense 55U7H for last 1.5 years. Got it at a good price from Amazon. Working well so far and happy with the purchase.

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

Hi all, need a recommendation.
I've shortlisted 2 65" TV's for purchase. TCL C755 and Sony Bravia 3 (K-65S30B). Both are around the 1 Lakh mark.
Although in similar price range, the TCL specs are eons ahead of the Sony, with the TCL being a QD mini led and the Sony just a basic LED. So, should I go for the brand name or the spec sheet?
An outside option is the Sony X90L. Priced at about 1.3 Lakhs, is it that much better than the TCL model?

Go ahead with the repair and then proceed to consumer court once the repair is completed. Getting it repaired with partial payment doesn’t absolve Samsung and wouldn’t be a hurdle for you to initiate a consumer court complaint.

I have the same model and purchase date. I was watching a movie on Netflix today when suddenly vertical lines appeared on the TV and would not go away even after troubleshooting for about an hour. I have now logged a complaint with the Sony guys. They are expected to be here in a day or so.

Could you please let me know which route should I take? I am sure that the guys at Sony would try to replace the panel at 35K here too

There are others who are facing issues with Sony. They will give you list of options and I think those models should be good. The cost of new Sony TV or otherwise with same configuration is >65K. Hence, it makes sense to get new TV at 35k rather than buying any other tv at 65K. I am eligible for same offer for next 1.5 years and I am waiting till the lines are more visible as of now they are horizontal and at the very bottom.

I decided to cut my losses and get rid of the TV. Sold it to a repair shop for 3k

I wasn't keen on getting another Sony TV for 35k (in lieu of the panel replacement) as the model they are offering is pretty basic (just a normal LED panel which is outdated in 2025). Furthermore I have lost my confidence in the brand. I can assure you, the 3 of us are not the only ones facing issues with Sony TV's in India. Have a look on Facebook, LinkedIn and X, there are literally hundreds of people with similar complaints for various models of TV. The CEO of Sony India has his LinkedIn page cluttered with complaints!

Therefore I have decided to get a QLED/Mini LED from one of the budget brands like Hisense or TCL with a 3/4 year warranty at around the 50k mark. They offer a much much better watching experience than the Sony that was being offered at 35k, and are comparable to Sony TV's at 2-3x more expensive. (Also taking the opportunity to upgrade to 65 inch from 55 inch )

I visited Croma and Reliance Digital and spent a good couple of hours comparing TV's side by side, changing the picture settings to normal home viewing settings, comparing the UI etc. The result is I am 100% sure on never buying a Sony/Samsung again.

Just waiting on upcoming Republic Day sales to pull the trigger.

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

My take on Sony TV

Sony used to make their own CRT, hence had a tight control on quality. They had one of the best CRT TV's.

Today the major manufacturers of Flat Panels are Samsung followed by LG. Most other manufacturers get their panels from them. Apart from panels what distinguishes one TV from another is the design of electronics and of course the software. Sony seems to be lacking in all these, hence their quality is not as good as others, especially in the long term.

So, inspite of having brilliant performance initially, Sony TV's rarely perform flawlessly for five years or more.

I got the Sony Bravia 3 55" recently and the picture quality is way ahead of TCL.

TCL and other brands in that league definitely appear strong on paper in terms of features etc, but Sony/LG/Samsung are leaders for a reason. I am not in any way defending the kinks that surface in the reputed brands too, however, there can be no comparison.

Ultimately it all boils down to your budget and your intention for buying the TV. If you plan to utilise the TV for watching basic TV etc, any of the Chinese brands will suffice and may also be available in a bigger screen size for half the cost. However, the real differentiation is visible in high quality content (OTT etc).

Showroom-viewing experience is always sub-par because of the bright lights and the picture settings applied to TVs of all brands; so that should not be your sole platform for making a purchase decision.

Thanks for the info.
I went ahead and got a 65" X90L on Jan 1st. Working and looking great so far.
A bit skeptical after seeing all the negative reviews on Sony, hence I've taken the extended warranty from Reliance Digital. Hope that things go good!
